New Web Comic Brings Nightmares to Life

Source Point Press debuted a new free weekly web comic series on their site Friday, June 15th, titled “Of Thoughts and Nightmares.” The first mini comic story that went live is called Eleven and is four pages long, including some animation effects on the first page.

“Of Thoughts and Nightmares is an anthology of strange daydreams and unsettling nightmares collected and illustrated by Dylan B. Caleho. Inspired by and originally made as a way for the creator to cope with her own nightmares, the comic has become a way to share some spooky experiences with others and connect in a uniquely dark fashion. Within these pages, you can expect to find everything from common fears of imagining figures in the darkness, to much more bizarre and sometimes gruesome themes. It is truly fascinating to see what the mind can stir up in the dead of night.

Source Point Press Art Director Joshua Werner explains, “Dylan is actually my new illustration and design intern here at Source Point, and she’s been doing phenomenal work. When I discovered this project of hers, I knew it was the perfect fit for our reader base. This is the kind of stuff people like us are fascinated by and can relate to, and I was thrilled when she agreed for us to start posting it on our site every week.”

“This comic started out as a way for me to cope with my own nightmares and anxiety stemming from paranoia,” said the creator, Dylan. “I have had very vivid nightmares as a child, a lot of them being re-occuring. I’m able to remember every detail, sometimes down tot he smells, sounds and feelings. After I shared the nightmares online, others began asking if I could draw their nightmares, and began, unprompted, describing what they had experienced.” She found the varying descriptions of people’s nightmare experiences so interesting and different from her own that she couldn’t say no, and began including some of her experiences in the collection. “From there,” Dylan continues, “it naturally shifted from a diary to an anthology.”

In Dylan’s short time at Source Point Press, she’s already done illustration work for advertisements and announcements, assisted in color flatting on Holliston: Carnival of Carnage, and worked the publisher’s booth at conventions. “The future is very bright for this girl,” says Bob Salley, writer of the Source Point Press titles Salvagers, Shelter Division and upcoming Ogre. “She combines raw talent with hard work. I can’t wait to see what she does next.”

“I’m very excited to bring a bigger audience to my work by having it hosted on Source Point’s website,” says Caleho. “Working with them as an intern has already been an incredible and exciting experience. I’m very humbled to have this opportunity to bring more attention to not only my comic but to the company that I have come to find friends and comfort with just the few months I’ve been working with them.”
