Stepford Wives, Misery Screenwriter William Goldman Has Passed Away.

Reports started coming in last night that mega-writer William Goldman died. The news has since been confirmed by his daughter, Jenny Goldman. According to most sources, his health had been deteriorating since the summer, and he passed away in his home in Manhattan on Thursday, November 15th while surrounded by his family and friends. He was 87 years old.

During his career, Goldman wrote five short stories, over twenty five novels, four theater plays and over thirty five movie scripts. Later, he would adapt many of his originals works into screenplays including horror and fantasy films Magic (1978), The Princess Bride (1987) and 5 Minutes (2018). He would also adapt Ira Levin’s scifi thriller The Stepford Wives (1975), Stephen King’s Oscar winning Misery (1990) with Kathy Bates, H.F. Saint’s scifi drama Memoirs of an Invisible Man (1992), and another Stephen King piece – Dreamcatcher (2003).

The Illinois native received numerous accolades for his work, including two Oscars for All the President’s Men and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, a Golden Globe nomination for Marathon Men, and a WGA nomination for Harper.
