I get a lot of movies in to review. Some I get curious about and request while others are sent to me without my knowledge. I review everything sent to me but sometimes these films are not horror. Most of the time if they are not horror they are exploitation flicks of some kind while there is other types that show up.

Sometime ago I got in the fantasy film aimed for children I Kill Giants from my friends at Umbrella Entertainment. The artwork and press release for the film looked fun so I couldn’t wait to check it out. I’ve been very horror heavy the last few days so I decided to mix it up a little and toss in this one. Thanks Umbrella for sending it over.

**Spoiler Alert**The film follows young Barbara (Wolfe) who lives a rough life with her older sister and younger siblings. She has no friends in school so she seeks refuge in a fantasy world she has created for herself where giants and titans are real and she is the only one that can defeat them using a powerful ancient warhammer. However, that is not the case and she is using this to escape the real horrors of her life and her bed ridden mother who is dying. **Spoiler Alert**

I had heard mixed things about this one. Some people said this was a fun escape from the real world while others said they didn’t like the way the story unfolds. I tend to go against the masses and couldn’t wait to check it out. I’m glad I did because this was a fun one.

The acting in this one is phenomenal. Madison Wolfe was born to play Barbara. Its going to be difficult for me to see her in any other role. She was amazing and this young actress has a long career ahead of her with performances like this. The supporting cast is great as well. They do an amazing job and really move the story along.

The story for this one works very well for a fantasy film aimed to children. Not all children have perfect home lives. Hell, I sure as fuck didn’t. My childhood sucked and I’m glad this movie didn’t follow a character that grew up in an upper middle class suburb. Having a child escape the horrors of the real world and enter her own fantasy world is what many children like this do. I lived in my head a lot growing up and this is very relatable. The pacing in this one is a little off which makes several of the scenes very heavy but the overall story works very well.

Finally, this is not a bloody one. There is visual effects that look decent enough but they will not age well. I liked the look of the titans but the giants did look silly. Overall, I Kill Giants is a fantastic family film. This is the kind of movie I would have loved growing up and will show to my kids soon when they are a little older to appreciate movies. Check it out.
