I’ve been on a movie rampage lately. Watching and reviewing up to 3 or 4 movies a day. That’s almost 3 times more than what I’ve done a day for the last ten years. With that being said, I’ve kinda burned myself out on horror. I needed something to recharge my batteries so to speak.
I decided to have a Nikkatsu Erotic Films Collection marathon from Impulse Pictures. A few months ago they sent over a few of their newest DVD releases. The first I checked out is the 1988 film Woman in a Box 2. This is a sequel to a film I previously reviewed and, coincidentally, is actually a horror movie. I want to thank Impulse Pictures for sending this one over.
**spoiler Alert** The film follows a manager of a ski resort that has a way with the ladies. Even though they tend to say no he is still able to convince them to sleep with him. However, their encounters never end there. Eventually they find their way to his basement where he has various torture equipment along with a box that he keeps his pretty play things in. **spoiler Alert**
I liked the first Woman in a Box: Virgin Sacrifice but I had heard when I was writing that review that the film released was not what the director had envisioned. However, after the success of the first film the studio allowed him to make the movie he originally wanted to which was released as Woman in a Box 2. The film was fun but I did not enjoy it as much as the first film so maybe there was something behind the studio making those changes?
The acting in this one is not the best. The cast attempts to get into character but we all know that the dialogue is just there to get the characters nude. The sex is the main focus of the film and the acting is second. The story for this one is very similar to the first except it does feel a bit slow and drawn out where the first felt a little more entertaining with the characters. I found myself zoning out by the middle of the film because it was very repetitive.
Finally, if you are looking for blood and gore you will be very disappointed. However, if nude women being tortured is more your speed then you are in luck. Overall, Woman in a Box 2 is a sleazy torture porn that embodies a lot of the first film but doesn’t bring anything new to the table. It’s fun for what it is but don’t expect a lot.
