Official Trailer for THIS GIRL, THIS BOY

The film, which has been shooting for over the course of several years, follows a gender fluid teenager who deals with isolation and confrontation while fighting gender dysphoria. The movie is part documentary, following a real-life teenager battling these issues, while including some scripted scenes to help build more of a story. Ryan spent two years filming it and the following year plus going through dozens of hours of footage trying to figure out how it will be put together, with plans on a bit more filming. A trailer went live last week and can be viewed here;

Ryan has directed and acted in mostly thrillers, true crime and horror films, but “old school action, 70’s style dramas and coming-of-age films were always what I wanted to make or act in,” says Ryan. “I’ve never had the budgets for action films, and drama underground films don’t sell, but this is what I want to make, so I’m finally giving it another shot.”

His 70’s style drama THE OWL IN ECHO PARK is also currently in post-production (https://youtu.be/8_H7Q9pBpXE), as is the dramatic GOD GOT ILL (https://youtu.be/7pri9w_d70w). His coming-of-age drama THE GIRL WHO WASN’T MISSING (https://youtu.be/6yO6MXkpvlM), is being released by Wild Eye (also known for horror) early next year, more than a decade after the film was completed. In contrast his controversial AMATEUR PORN STAR KILLER trilogy is about to have it’s 3rd edition release in 8 years (with 4 releases in total). “Horror is just an easy sell, even though I consider those APSK films character dramas,” says Ryan.

Wild Eye is also releasing the APSK trilogy. Cinema Epoch and E1 Entertainment handled the first set of releases. Ryan recently starred in the thriller CHOKE, directed by Gregory Hatanaka (SAMURAI COP 2), which was inspired by Ryan’s character in the APSK trilogy. No distribution plans are set for THIS GIRL, THIS BOY nor for any of Ryan’s other dramas. “We still have tons of post work on them, and will probably have to go the festival route, with them being dramas,” says Ryan.
