Austin, TX – Genre veteran Tyler Savage (Inheritance) has announced the North American Premiere of his latest feature, Blinders, at the virtual edition of 27th Austin Film Festival & Writers Conference. The increasingly creepy film follows a lonely transplant to the City of Angels who forms a dangerous friendship with a rideshare driver. Blinders will make its North American Premiere at Austin Film Festival on October 24th as part of the Dark Matters program.
Austin natives and UT alums Vincent Van Horn and Michael Lee Joplin headline the cast as Andy and Roger, two lonely souls whose paths cross during one fateful drive. When Andy forms a blossoming connection with the beautiful Sam (Christine Ko, (“Upload”, “Dave”), Roger quickly turns obsessive with disastrous consequences. Savage, who spent four years in Austin working for Terrence Malick, directed from a script he co-wrote with Dash Hawkins, and they produced alongside J.P. Castel, Chadd Harbold and Daniel Pisano.
Blinders made its world premiere at London’s Arrow Video FrightFest Digital Edition in August. A highlight of the festival, it was was hailed by critics, who called the film “a nifty, creepy, thriller that will make your toes curl” (Hollywood News) and “a clever, deeply subversive take on gendered norms” (Sight & Sound). Savage was commended as a filmmaker who “commits to the full, disturbing, marrow-rich content of his vision from first minute to last” (Flickering Myth).
