SPOOKY SHORT FILM “THE SISTERS” PREMIERES JUST IN TIME FOR HALLOWEEN

Horror-comedy short film “The Sisters” premiered this week on FilmShortage.com and BeyondTheShort.com, just in time for Halloween. Written and directed by Andrew Benedict, the creepy seven-minute, black and white short pays homage to Alfred Hitchcock and draws inspiration from the deranged familial relationships of classics like Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? and Grey Gardens. “The Sisters” stars comedians Annie Donley (Chris Gethard Presents) and Devin Bockrath (Orange is the New Black, Late Night with Seth Meyers) as the titular siblings who spend each day awaiting the return of their father in a small house on an island in the middle of a lake on top of a mountain. Tensions run high as they prepare an extra special–and gruesome–meal for his arrival, and quarrel like only sisters can.

“The Sisters” was shot by Bernard Hunt using a RED camera and vintage Kinoptik lenses, the brand used by Stanley Kubrick for A Clockwork Orange and the maze scene in The Shining. Both Hunt and editor Bennett Springsteel have worked on feature films that have appeared on Netflix and Amazon Prime.

“The Sisters” follows Benedict’s 2018 short film “All Aboard the Gravy Train,” which premiered at the famous TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood as part of the Beverly Hills Film Festival, and screened at Sidewalk Film Festival in Birmingham, the Atlanta Underground Film Festival, and the Portland Comedy Film Festival, among others. He has directed music videos for garage rock band Gymshorts and is a co-creator of The Drag Shopping Network. His writing has been published on McSweeney’s.
