DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

“When Arish Sirkissoon approached me with this concept of the “Tokoloshe” I thought, “you’re kidding right?” On more research I discovered that the TOKOLOSHE is actually an incredibly interesting and resonate character that takes on many forms across South African cultural. HORROR is not my genre so I found the challenge intriguing. Arish and I embarked on a journey of making this film and along the way we both discovered the very special and very African world of the “Tokoloshe”. The film embraces cultural and gender diversity exploring a unique and very extraordinary world of the “Tokoloshe”.

PRODUCER’S STATEMENT

“I always felt like the world needed an authentic TOKOLOSHE Film. A horror story that showed the beauty and diversity of South Africa. I needed that story to be accessible to the world. Growing up I heard the stories and it always fascinated me. The concept transcends all races, religions and cultures.

No matter who you are in South Africa, you have heard a story. The stories diversify depending on region and beliefs. I wanted to combine these findings and create a new world. I think myself and Richard have created a product that will travel. It is like nothing you have ever seen. As an independent filmmaker you’re always chasing a final product with limited funds. Sometimes you have to grind your teeth and find a way to complete the project. There is always something that keeps you up at night.
