The highly anticipated DIY horror film, “Spirit Riser,” has just been made available on blu ray from Vinegar Syndrome’s exciting new imprint, Art Label. The film was a six year project made with limited resources and lots of creativity from the famously outrageous Dylan Mars Greenberg. For this magnum opus, Greenberg gathered some of her cast regulars regulars in Amanda Flowers (Shakespeare’s Shitstorm), Jurgen Azazel Munster (Werewolf Bitches from Outer Space), and Matthew Silver (Glamarus), and joined them with jaw-dropping new faces, including Cherie Currie of The Runaways, an unrecognizable Whitney Moore (Birdemic), Lynn Lowry (Shivers), Kansas and Parker Bowling (Cuddly Toys), rock and roll legend Alan Merrill, Patti Harrison (Together Together), and Gender Outlaw author Kate Bornstein, with narration by Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs).
The film will also be screening at Brooklyn’s Nitehawk Cinema Prospect Park on Tuesday, September 17, moderated by film writer Lorry Kikta. Tickets are available here: https://nitehawkcinema.com/prospectpark/movies/spirit-riser/
Greenberg’s project “Spirit Riser” promises a captivating cinematic experience that blends horror, comedy, martial arts and surrealism. Peaches Christ, famed drag queen and director of All About Evil, said of the film: “SPIRIT RISER is utterly fabulously WILD! A Lynchian wild-ride through a queer dreamscape of beauty and horror that must be experienced as it’s practically impossible to describe.” James Rolfe, known across the internet as The Angry Video Game Nerd, says Spirit Riser is “A surreal mindtrip with an ending that will haunt your dreams.” James Merendino, director of SLC PUNK says: “Frenzied, surreal and with wild abandon: Dylan Mars Greenberg’s fever dream, SPIRIT RISER is a banger.”
