Alex MacNicoll Cast as Lead in AI Indie Horror-Thriller NEAR DEATH

The Cast Also Includes Harrison Xu, Ivan Leung, Olivia Rose Prince, David A. Chang, Del Eswar, and Paige Hapeman

Alex MacNicoll (Brilliant Minds) leads the ensemble feature which also includes Harrison Xu (Extremely Unique Dynamic), Ivan Leung (Extremely Unique Dynamic), Olivia Rose Prince (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), David A. Chang (The Accountant 2), Del Eswar (The Dresden Sun), Paige Hapeman (Sit Down Stand Up) cast in the tech indie horror-thriller NEAR DEATH.

In the film, a withdrawn and disconnected software engineer gathers a group of friends to a mountain cabin to celebrate his birthday and test out a new augmented reality prototype he’s helped develop. When the test does not go as planned, the group is forced to question reality as the night devolves into a fight to stay alive.

Shaina Aidan writes and directs the film, which marks her debut feature. Noel Do-Murakami (Extremely Unique Dynamic), Chang, and Eswar (The Apprentice) produce.

MacNicoll currently stars in NBC’s Brilliant Minds and can be seen as a recurring guest star in the Apple TV+ series Bad Monkey. His other notable acting credits include the Netflix Original Series 13 Reasons Why, the Amazon Original Transparent, and the feature film HEART OF CHAMPIONS with Michael Shannon, Alexander Ludwig, and Charles Melton.

Xu recently made his feature directorial debut with the film EXTREMELY UNIQUE DYNAMIC in which he also starred, wrote, and produced. His series acting credits include Shameless, Grey’s Anatomy, 9-1-1, and American Horror Stories. A thriving voice actor, Xu can also be heard dubbing the lead characters in the Netflix Original Series All Of Us Are Dead, The Glory, and Sweet Home.

Leung made his feature directorial debut with the film EXTREMELY UNIQUE DYNAMIC in which he also starred, wrote, and produced. His acting credits include the series All American, Atypical, Superstore, Good Girls, Grey’s Anatomy, Superfly, Sex Lives of College Girls, and the SAG-Award nominated film The Tender Bar, starring George Clooney and Ben Affleck. He will next be seen in the film Skillhouse directed by Josh Stolberg, and produced by Ryan Kavanaugh’s Proxima Studios and 50 Cent’s G-Unit films.

Prince was most recently seen guest starring as Charlie Day’s sister in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Her other credits include the award-nominated short NEVER GETTING RID OF ME, BITCH, in which she starred, co-wrote, and produced.

Chang will soon be seen in THE ACCOUNTANT 2 starring Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, and Danielle Pineda. His previous acting credit includes the award-winning short film, THE EVALUATION.

Eswar most recently served as co-executive producer of the award-nominated film The Apprentice. He will soon be seen in the film The Dresden Sun starring Christina Ricci and Mena Suvari.

Hapeman’s film acting credits include BEFORE WE BEGIN and the short FIRST FALL.
