Imprint Review

The Angry Princess has graced us with another of her great reviews, this time it’s the banned episode of Masters of Horror Season 1….Imprint. Check out what she has to say about this torture and horror “fairy tale” of sorts from critically acclaimed director Takashi Miike.

I waited a long time to get my grips on a copy of this movie since I have read so much about it before hand. “Imprint” was banned from being shown on Showtimes hot new series for Horror fanatics like me called “Masters of Horror.” For those of you that live under a rock or just don’t have Showtime like myself this series has captivated the masses by having each episode be done by a different famed horror Director. Takashi Miike has titillated his audiences prior to this with his films “Audition” and “Ichi The Killer” I always remember Rob Zombie on some horror show commenting on the movie “Audition,” saying that the last 15 minutes of the film make up for the long drawn out movie.

In 19th Century Japan a journalist searches for the prostitute he promised he would come back to get her and take her away to a normal life. On this island demons and whores rule the night. After the journalist picks a shy whore who was trying to hide in the back they retire to his room where he learns of unspeakable torment and torture that was inflicted upon his lost love. He also learns the sad story of the deformed whore that waits before him for his commands to please him. The build up of this story was great it progressed slowly but steadily showing you the cruelty of the other women up close and personal.

Everything was spectacular up until this part I can’t mention for it would spoil it for you all but I can tell you this…To many directors, producers or story tellers they feel like they have to go down unchartered routes to out do or to be original that they allow stupid things to be intertwined with the rest of an otherwise spectacular movie. It’s just disappointing to see an artist’s canvas smeared. Besides that one aspect of the story (you’ll pick it out immediately when it happens) this movie was worth every penny I spent on it.
