The Horror Convention Massacre

It’s not everyday that you get to watch a real horror movie. With all of the remakes, used ideas, and generally un-original writing a good horror flick is hard to come by. With the exception of this one. The Horror Convention Massacre is the latest offering of blood and gore from Joe Ostrica and Old School Sinema Productions.

Filmed at the Cinema Wasteland Horror Convention, this original concept for a splatter fest had its premiere at the same convention that it was filmed at. It was shown 2 times at the 3-day convention and each time it was standing room only. I personally stood in the doorway trying to look past everyone’s head and trying not to spill my beer at the same time.

So on to the movie. For a 3-day shoot at the hotel, Joe really did his best to convey the idea of a splatter film…. and he did an excellent job. This is surprisingly a very good movie. Its not that I was going into it with the idea of it looking cheep or anything, I just really wondered if he had the time to produce a good flick while trying to shoot on the limited time frame at the hotel. OK, lets get to the point huh? This movie rocked! It really is everything that you could think of when you want to see a horror movie. Very good acting, characters were believable, and the killing and gore scenes were nothing to laugh at.

Yes there were a few things that probably could have been better, but that’s what you get when making a low budget flick on your own, but they were all looked over and forgotten simply because this movie is fun. The killing was original and so was the killer. This movie really didn’t ask too much of the viewer with the who-dun-its and the whys. It just simply showed horror fans what they want. Brutal killing, scantily clad women, sex, drugs, silly celebrity cameos, and all the fun that a splatter flick needs. Throw in some fun dialog and point of views from the conventioneers and the staff themselves, a rocking soundtrack, and you got yourself a good time. All in all this was a well written, original idea that was shot, acted, and perfectly suited for fans of horror and the horror conventions we all go to. What made this even better was the atmosphere. There really is nothing better than checking out a movie with a bunch of horror freaks and hootin’ and hollering at the screen. This premier was an absolute success. Everyone there loved the flick and Joe sold out of the DVDs without even having a table there to sell them. This is really what independent horror is all about. Making movies like this for fans that love them.
