TH1 131120075833w2p03expirydategirlintA HIGHLY successful teen horror movie that was made in Wrexham has gone on general release on DVD.

Described as ‘low budget, high production and good old fashioned gore’, the film, Expiry Date, was largely shot at Trevor Hall, near Wrexham, and also at Yale College. It features an almost entirely amateur local cast.

Co-written and directed by Karen Bird, who lectures at Yale College, the film premiered at the Cardiff Film to a sold out audience and was also very well received at the Leeds Horror Festival.

The film tells the story of Reece ‘the school loser – no money, nerdy friends and the girl of his dreams doesn’t know he exists’. “That is until he discovers a mysterious credit card with an unlimited balance. “Now able to buy anything he wants, Reece’s life appears to have taken a turn for the better.

“Unfortunately the card is possessed by an evil demon and, as everyone who has benefited from the credit card starts dying in bizarre and gruesome ways.” Karen Bird said: “What has been really good is that the film really appeals to teenagers and has had a great reception. “We are really delighted how well it has appealed to the target audience and are already planning our next project. “It was really hard work making Expiry Date but the cast showed that they have real talent and everyone was amazing. “It just shows that a good British film doesn’t need to be made in London or even in a big city or studio.”
