Genesis- The Apocalypse

01-coll-dna-knoll-lWith cloning technology first becoming big back in the late 90’s with the first successful cloning of a living organism by the name of Dolly, genetics and genetic research has become a hot topic in and around the world. Since the banning of human cloning by most civilized nations some years ago, it has done nothing to slow down the cloning research nor its controversy.

Countries like South Korea having successfully cloned human embryos and now with Harvard university researchers stating they intend to clone a human embryo of their own. But moral, ethical and legal issues aside, what will be next for cloning and genetics in general? With technology advancing by what seems to be every minute and with those breakthroughs leading to the just as controversial stem cell research, the question many have been asking themselves is what will be next?

Scientists believe that the cures for many diseases of our time will be found in our genetics. There are researchers who put in exhaustingly long hours, working toward a breakthrough that will provide answers to many of the questions surrounding these diseases. Some discoveries have already been made regarding the connection between genetics and certain illnesses such as Alzheimer’s or breast cancer.

The problem, though, is what then to do with that information. Learning what gene causes what diseases does not necessarily provide scientists with a cure for that particular disease, but it does bring them one step closer to finding some answers. It is a fascinating area of study, involving some of the most brilliant minds on the planet, not to mention incredible financial backing. This climate of scientific advancement is the perfect backdrop for a new novel, titled “Genesis- The Apocalypse”, written by author Ruben Christopher.

With the war on terror, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and with the emergence of recent threats by Iran and North Korea, the military has been stretched to its limits and pushed to its breaking points. In their determination to end and win these wars they chose to fight, where will they turn next for the weapons to fight and win these wars?

Many believe they will turn to genetics for the answers to those questions. With genetics offering a new, exciting and for the most part unexplored frontier that has the potential to offer endless rewards and advancement, genetics is the next logical step for modern weaponry to turn to. With being able to genetically chose your off springs hair color, eye color, height, weight, etc: not being too far off in the future, why wouldn’t the military use genetics to develop the perfect soldier, the perfect killing machine to help them win their wars.

This is the premise of the new book “Genesis- The Apocalypse” by Ruben Christopher, which uses genetics as it’s back drop for the plot and the creation of a genetic soldier by the military as it’s main character, it creates a suspenseful, action packed ride through literary fiction. It weaves the moral and ethical questions many have been asking themselves for years now into a masterfully woven tapestry of literary fiction. All the while hindering on that all important question of how far will genetics go, what will the mind of man dream up and use genetics to create to answer the every changing problems and new challenges in the world, that can only be answered by time itself.
