Dismal: Eating Grue with the Extraordinary Christopher Patrick. By Brian Kirst
Just one look at the trailer for Fearmakers Studio’s Dismal (www.fearmakersdismal.com) and one can be assured that Scotchworthy’s Christopher Patrick has accomplished effects that will make gore hounds around the world squeal with bloodthirsty delight. In fact, it is obvious, right off the bat that Patrick, one of the founding members of Scotchworthy, has designed and created all the practical special effects with his usual cinematic flair. Patrick, a distinguished instructor at Pennsylvania’s Tom Savini School of Make-up (the Douglas school) also came up with a new way of accomplishing 3rd and 4th degree burn FX and as his partner, Tony Wash, ascertains, “It’s vicious!”
Dismal, whose slogan proclaims “Eat or be Eaten”, looks like intense classic old school horror – a combination of Friday the 13th and Wrong Turn – and Patrick’s invaluable contributions are sure to make this nasty flick all the more enjoyable.
