Spilling Autumn Blood with the Bad Boys of Horror. By Brian Kirst
They say that you just can’t keep a good villain down – and some of horror’s favorite baddies are proving this to be very true this fall.
Nathan Witte, the salacious Gutterball’s hero with a nasty twist, is riding the comedy wave at www.finelinesketch.com with his comedy-improvisation show. Witte, who co-created this silly venture, proves he can do more than just assist in keeping a tragically bloody secret here. In fact, Witte’s creatively on the mark whether impersonating Samuel Jackson or fully investing in an original character of his very own.
Jerod Howard whose insecure Elliot’s vicious murder spree helped push Tempe Video’s October Moon to the top of 2006’s sale charts, will not only be returning in the horror filled sequel, November Son, but is currently treading the boards in a version of Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap. Just what exactly happens when this formally murderous youth connects with the madam of the dark? Find out at Bowen Park this September and October.
While New York based, horror star Joe Zaso often essays twisted, dark characters, he proves he’s actually a nice guy in reality with his latest offer. As a pre-Halloween special, Zaso is offering both Cinema Images’ latest giallo Darkness Surrounds Roberta and moody anthology film Red Midnight for $9.99 (plus postage) at www.cinemaimages.net until October 31st, 2008. Roberta, which has gotten significant press from such notable publications as Fangoria, features a truly off-kilter performance from Zaso as a brilliant, blind (or is he really?) detective.
Lastly, Paul Howard, whose quirky characterizations have been a highlight of such films as Tales from the Grave 2 and A Secret Handshake (in which he portrays the mysterious Long John), is featured as an extremely violent and dark man in the recently released Another Kind of Valor – www.cimh.org/learning/publications-dvd/another-kind-of-valor.aspf.
Indeed, with such maniacal talent lurking everywhere, this Halloween season is sure to be a thrilled filled, ghastly delight.
