MAX BROOKS, AUTHOR OF THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE, WILL GIVE TEN LESSONS ON HOW TO AVOID ZOMBIE ATTACKS

Don’t look now, but the undead may be stalking you. Fear not, Max Brooks will be at Harper College, Roselle and Algonquin Roads, Palatine, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, October 27, with his best-selling book The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead.

Brooks, son of movie producer Mel Brooks and the late actress Ann Bancroft, will provide an energetic and hilarious presentation of the top 10 lessons in surviving a zombie attack including the ideal outfits to wear, the best weaponry to use, and a general understanding of zombies.

The Zombie Survival Guide is one of Brooks’ three books and he has another due out in June 2009 called The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks. His credentials also include winning an Emmy for writing for Saturday Night Live from 2001 to 2003. His second book World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War, which discusses the largest world war in history between humans and zombies, has been picked up by Paramount Pictures and Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B will produce it. Pitt won the rights after participation in a bidding war with Leonardo Di Caprio’s production company Appian Way.

A zombie movie like this is sure to gain the attention of current fans of the Resident Evil franchise. This series of movies is how Harper College third year student Jose Ramirez, 22, first got into studying the undead and the possibility that they are really real.

“Scientists are unlocking DNA codes and human genomes everyday,” Ramirez of Wheeling says. “Zombie engineering is totally possible and any country that develops the ability to make zombies would have an edge on any other country.” Ramirez sees a clear link between Resident Evil and Brooks’ books although he has only skimmed through The Zombie Survival Guide; “It is at the top of my list of books to read after I finish everything that I have to read for school.”

After his interactive presentation, Brooks will conduct a question and answer session for the audience. He will also sign copies of his books which will be sold at the show and are currently on sale at the Harper College Book Store. Tickets are on sale at the Harper College Box Office and are $7 for Harper Students, $9 for Harper faculty/staff and other students, and $10 for general admission. There will be free drawings of ten copies of The Zombie Survival Guide at the Max Brooks event.
