ON Hallowe’en weekend, Nottingham movie fans will get the chance to see an independent British film – directed by a city filmmaker – that the rest of the country won’t get to see until Boxing Day.
Mum and Dad, director Steven Sheil’s full-length feature debut, will show at 11.30pm on Saturday, November 1 as part of the Broadway’s Mayhem Horror Festival.
It is, Steven said, “quite a full-on horror film”.
It tells the story of a Polish girl who is lured into the home of a family with a sick and bloody pastime.
Chris Cooke, who along with Steven is one of the co-directors of the Mayhem festival, classes Mum and Dad as part of a rising tide of top British horror films.
“It’s absolutely British,” he said. “It’s grim, but it’s got this dark streak of humour in the middle.”
Made on a budget of just £100,000, it’s also a film that demonstrates what many in the industry already know – when it comes to film, Nottingham’s a city on the up.
