Zombies, Zombies, Zombies

Zombies, Zombies, Zombies , Reviewed by Bryan Schuessler

Jason Murphy directed Zombies, Zombies, Zombies (2008) and it was a direct to DVD release. I see why.

I chose to watch this film because of its premise: zombies and strippers. That was my sole reason for renting this film. I am a red-blooded American male and I enjoy watching blood and boobs on the screen now and then. This movie gave me both. Unfortunately, what it gave me little to nothing of was tolerable acting. I mean, the acting really stunk. It was beyond campy, cheesy, or even on par with Troma’s worst film put out directly to dvd. Troma really has some stinkers, mind you. (Although I love The Toxic Avenger with all my heart!!!)

I had hoped to get with this film humor, nudity, and gore. There were some very lame attempts at humor and they might have cracked a smile across my lips if I could get over the terrible acting. So the humor that I found in the dialogue (yeah, there actually was some dialogue) was offset by some of the most annoying characters to come across the screen, like Johnny “backhand” Vegas (played by Anthony Headen) who I personally wanted to backhand every time he opened his mouth.

The plot of the film is simple. A scientist, Dr. Stewart (played by Michael Clinkenbeard) has a “friend” that has a drug problem and gives his friend pills to ween him off of the drugs. Unbeknownst to the doctor, his “friend” steals some chemical concoction  that is the formula for turning one into a zombie. Its the chemical potion gone bad scenario. Who cares! I did not watch this film for a decent plotline nor for its acting. I watched it for babes, boobs, and blood. The three ‘B’s. They loaded the film with strippers played by former Playboy models (Hollie Winnard and Jessica Barton), and they were quite attractive and I thought for a movie featuring strippers as a central point to the whole film, they should have stripped more clothing off.  So, I was not satisfied there. As for the blood and gore, there were far too many scenes that used terrible CGI that was shoddily executed and was almost comic.

I think I have seen Power Rangers episodes with more realistic effects. I cant recall how many scenes mixed CGI with a bucket of blood and guts just tossed against a wall where someone or something had been standing.  I guess I should not have expected too much. It does have Scream Queen Tiffany Shepis who character’s name is Tiffany as well. She has been in 68 or more movies that probably are right on par with this one.  Shepis was in Troma Films Tromeo and Juliet Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger 4, and the upcoming remake  Night of the Demons (2009) to name just a few. Juliet Reeves was also in this who you may or may not recognize as having played Jackie in Automaton Transfusion (a very good indie zombie film made on a very small budget with tons of gore and some boobs, too!).

One interesting part of the film I have never seen done before was (SPOILER) Chris (actor Sean Harriman) was bit and whatever was in his blood caused all any zombies that bit him to explode seconds later. Now, if the special effects were better, this scene could have had extreme potential. But it didn’t. I recommend that you forget about this film. Rent a Romero or Fulci film if you want zombies and see what is on SPICE network if you want naked strippers.

Was I too harsh in this review? NAH!!!

  1. Haha … Not at all … and I was in this interesting opus. Okay, granted, I shot one day and didn't know what the film was really going to be about. Although, during the table read, the first thoughts were "I'm in a Troma movie". My character or performance seemed to be off from the rest of the movie.
