As Paisley Babylon, DJ Joe Wallace (a Horror Society favorite who provided the tune-age for this past summer’s Zombie Disco) melds mind warping dialogue from fright flicks with grooves that alternately swirl and chug throughout the musical universe on his first CD The Alpha Wave Variations. (A second CD of hypnotic trances, Midnight Hallucinations, was recently released as well.)

In ‘Stone Garden’, PB swirls trinkets from ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ (assumedly) and other hick horror wonders with moody layers to create a truly harrowing (yet fun) psychedelic experience. Track 5, ‘Severed’, comes on like a Dario Argento flick on acid wearing its leathery yet light Goblin influences, bloodily, on its sleeve.

untitled‘Dead Channel’ starts out with a happily happening heaven of pounding keyboards – soon descending into rhythms and moods that are truly suggestive of its title. It’s the essence of bristling static connecting with Brian Eno in the football field of failed gothic dramas – pure dark chocolate dunked in a jug of blood bliss.

All the other tracks also incorporate a terror-ific melding of styles, making Alpha Wave Variations an amusement park slide (decorated with sonic razor blades) that many may want to groove down on.
