Review: Jack’s Bad Day. By Brian Kirst
Director/writer Shawn Ewert delivers a cute and cutting adventure with his 20 minute humorously horror filled Jack’s Bad Day.
Working around his scheduled appointment to take Grandma to the doctor’s, whimsical serial killer Jack tries to get some bloody day-to-day business done. Unfortunately, Jack’s victims all have a way of expiring before he can dig his claws into them – and just what is up with that mysterious stranger in the laundry mat?
With the perfect running time for his scenario, Ewert provides some concise editing and gets a surprisingly likeable performance from Steven Good who ultimately comes off like a darker version of a John Hughes comedy cast member-which, ultimately, is just ‘ducky’ for everyone involved. Jayson Champion meanwhile provides some juicy menace in his brief role and Janye Anderson’s death throes is both scarily believable and reliably funny- a golden moment in an altogether fine exercise in terror filled fun.
