Rubber Screening

Once again, the Grindhouse Film Festival is helping present a new horror film at the AFI Fest, which starts later this week in Hollywood. Note that ALL REGULAR SCREENINGS AT AFI FEST 2010 ARE FREE AGAIN THIS YEAR, but tickets are required for admittance to the films! Tickets are available at AFI.COM/AFIFEST or by calling 1-866-AFI-FEST.

This year the film that was selected for us is the surreal and bizarre RUBBER from French director Quentin Dupieux. We haven’t seen it yet, but the plot sounds insane and it also has exploitation fave Wings Hasuer in the cast so we’ll definitely be checking it out Friday evening (right before we head over to the New Beverly Cinema to catch classic XXX film WANDA WHIPS WALL STREET at midnight).

RUBBER (2010)
France | DIR Quentin Dupieux
CAST: Stephen Spinella, Roxane Mesquida, Jack Plotnick, Wings Hauser, Ethan Cohn, Thomas F Duffy, Cecelia Antoinette, Gaspard Auge, David Bowe, Devin Brochu

Why? No reason. “No reason” will never make more sense than after you have survived a screening of RUBBER. Straddling art film and horror, RUBBER has the most outrageous premise of any film this year. (Or ever?) An audience gathers in the desert to watch a story unfold. It’s a story that has been told time and time again: a tire comes to life, rolls along, discovers it has the ability to make people’s heads explode with its mind, and so on. This is RUBBER, the latest film from director Quentin Dupieux (also known under the pseudonym Mr. Oizo). But it’s not just a film about a telekinetic tire on a killing spree, there is a frame around this story that adds another level of deconstructionist space to the film and another surrealistic layer to the experience. About as mind-blowing as a movie can be, RUBBER must be experienced to be believed.
