HS Live 11-10-10

Wednesday 11/10 Rob Dimension will spend some time with filmmakers Evan Makrogiannis and Brian Weaver on Horror Society Live! They’ll talk about The Super, the film they’ve recently completed that world premieres at Blood Bath 2: The Film Festival and other things that come up along the way. Brian Harris joins for the… cult DVD recommendation of the week. It all starts at 9:00 PM EST.

Below is a little about both of them!

Summer 2007: Wrote our first Feature, The Turnpike Killer. We’d been friends for years and both being obsessed with horror decided we wanted to start making horror films the way we liked to see them-gritty, raw and uncompromising.

Winter 2007-2008: Filmed The Turnpike Killer in NYC. The film in a nutshell centers around Jon Beest, a serial killer who hears voices in his head, which tells him to cleanse the world of whores and to find “the chosen one”. The film paid homage to movies that inspired us, mainly Maniac, Henry, Don’t Answer the Phone, etc. It was done guerrilla on basically a zero budget. It premiered at the Weekend of Fear Film Festival in Germany. It was well received by the people who saw it and got some very positive reviews but was put on the back burner as we got immersed in writing The Super shortly after. It was done under our Hallows Eve Films banner which Evan and I co-founded.

The Super came about because we had another screenplay in the works that we knew we couldn’t realistically shoot with no budget so we decided to write a film that could be done similar to The TPK. We discussed it with a family friend of mine, and fellow filmmaker Alex Lugones, he read the script and was interested in being involved.

Summer 2009: Alex Lugones signs on as Producer.

Winter 2009-2010: Filmed The Super in and around NYC. The mood and atmosphere of The Super was heavily inspired by Taxi Driver, Bad Lieutenant (the original), Maniac (once again), and in general the 70’s and early 80’s NYC exploitation films.

Currently working on our new screenplay which is titled “Solstice”, which will be a departure from the urban horror of The Super & TPK.
