Lo (2009)

Love presents many challenges to couples…but none so daunting as the one Justin faces with his girlfriend April. Kidnapped by demons, April‘s mystery begins to unfold when he finds an ancient book that she has left behind. Using the book, he contacts the demon Lo, ordering it to help him rescue the girl from the fiery pits . But Lo has other plans for his new master…dinner being one of them.

Jeremiah Birkett is Lo
Sarah Lassez is April
Ward Robers is Justin
Devin Barry is Jeez
Aaron Gaffey is Waiter
Sarah Larissa Deckert is The Demon Rat
John Karyus is Demon Lord
Liz Loza is June

Justin sits in a dark room in the middle of a pentagram surrounded by white candles. An old ancient book sits in front of him an we see him fumble about as he tries to summon the demon Lo. He recites the incantation and everything goes black.

Justin: A-a-are y-you t-the – Are you the demon, Lo?

Lo: [growls] I am that.

Justin: Yo-you h-ha…Have great power?

Lo: This I know…

[laughs]

Lo: Now clean the shit from your pants and tell me what you want.

As Justin tries to tell Lo about his lost love, April, images from his memory play out in the room around them. Another demon, Jeez, appears and tries to convince Justin that April is a demon. Justin‘s not convinced that April is a demon. Can Justin save his true love from this terrible nightmare?

Lo from 2009 is…well a good word for it is strange. Definitely an Independent film, for Lo is not only a horror movie, but it is also a love story. A horror story? Maybe. A love story? Most definitely. For this one ask us to ask ourselves how far would a man (or you) go to rescue the love of his life. Would Justin travel through the pits of hell to get April back?

Lo is definitely  a departure from the norm…at least a departure from films I‘ve watched before. However, I liked it. It‘s one of those movies that you say to yourself, “I can‘t believe I sat there and watched it.“ But I couldn‘t stop watching it. It was intriguing. And one that is just perfect for Valentine‘s week.

Even though I found the acting a bit corny at time, I‘m giving Lo 3 1/2 out of 5 bloody stumps up.
