I’m almost positive that Swamp Shark is the third shark attack film coming out in 2011. What is the obsession with sharks lately? Is Shark Week not enough or have the SyFy Channel films jump started a new subgenre in horror that is really popular? Either way, Swamp Shark is in post-production. Here’s what we know so far.
Actor turned director, Griff Furst, was in charge of this project, along with Bullet Films. Mr. Furst previously directed Wolvesbayne and Lake Placid 3, so ironically I think there is a good possibility that Swamp Shark could end up on the SyFy Channel. Starring in Swamp Shark will be Richard Tanne (Hostel, 2001 Maniacs), Jeff Chase (Transporter 2), and Kristy Swanson, the original Buffy The Vampire Slayer. IMDB provides a long, detailed summary of the film:
“Open on gorgeous swamplands of the Atchafalaya Basin in the summer. Lots of beautiful teens are at the beach the weekend before Gator Fest. That night an animal smuggling deal goes wrong and a large sea creature escapes into a swampy backwoods river. At the McDaniel’s “Gator Shack” restaurant, a local, Jackson is drunk, and gets mangled to bits. The town sheriff blames the carnage on the McDaniel’s “escaped” pack of gators and tries hauling them off to jail. Rachel McDaniel, head of the family, claims to have seen the fin of a shark! Rachel and her family, along with the help of a mysterious stranger, Charlie, take on the Swampshark and the law to clear their names, save Rachel’s kid sister Krystal and prevent the unwitting folks at the upcoming Gator Fest from being torn to shreds by a beast the likes of which no one has ever seen!”
There isn’t one thing I’ve heard so far that makes this film stand out from other films similar to it. Why would I want to view it, except to see Kristy Swanson? Personally, when this comes out, I’ll pass. What do all you HS readers think? Would you turn in?
