Legendary Producer, Director Roger Corman Receives Lifetime Achievement Award at Vincentennial

ST. LOUIS: Cinema St. Louis is honored to pay tribute to legendary director and producer Roger Corman with a Lifetime Achievement Award as part of Vincentennial: The Vincent Price 100th Birthday Celebration. Corman will participate in a pair of special programs. The first, on May 21 at 8pm, features a screening of “The Tomb of Ligeia” and an interview with Corman, conducted by Video Watchdog editor Tim Lucas, that will focus on the director’s films with Vincent Price. The second program, on May 22 at 8pm, includes a screening of “The Masque of the Red Death,” which was specifically requested by Corman; a clip reel that samples the filmmaker’s 500-plus movies; an interview, again with Lucas, that explores his astonishing career; and a presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award. Vincentennial also features a trio of other Corman-directed Price films, “The Raven,” “The Pit and the Pendulum,” and “House of Usher.”

The film festival portion of Vincentennial kicked off last night with a screening of “The Fly” at the Missouri History Museum.  The screening was preceded by a showing of the “Thriller” video which included an impromptu flash mob performance of the “Thriller” dance.  Vincentennial organizer Tom Stockman greeted guests in costume as scientist turned fly Andre Delambre and they awarded a prize to the best Vincent Price look-a-like.  Screenings continue this evening at 7pm at the Hi-Pointe Theatre with “The Last Man on Earth,” the first adaptation of the Matheson novel “I Am Legend.”  There will be an intro and post film discussion by Richard Squire, creator of the website the Vincent Price Exhibit. “The Tingler” will be shown at 9:30pm with a version of the Percepto gimmick perfected by Film Forum’s Bruce Goldstein.  Mr. Goldstein will introduce the film and do a post film discussion.
