Kitsie Duncan Talks Darkrider Studios, Mother’s Blood, and More

It is my pleasure to introduce to all of the HorrorSociety readers, Kitsie Duncan. Kitsie is a woman who is dedicating her talents to the horror film genre, whether it be starring in films, directing, or modeling. She is even one of the cofounders of the popular indie company, Darkrider Studios. Kitsie was kind enough to take some time out of her busy schedule to answer a few questions for me. It’s no wonder this scream queen is nominated for a Golden Cob Award. Scroll down to find out more about Kitsie and where you can find her in the future.

As I mentioned in our initial emails, I first discovered you after voting for the Golden Cob Awards, in which you are nominated for Best Rising B-Movie Actress. Being that you started in the big times of the indie horror genre two years ago, how does being up for this award feel?

I am so honored to be nominated amongst so many other talented people in the horror genre. Even more tickled that colleagues and fans were the ones that nominated me. I am looking forward to the awards ceremony at the B Movie Festival in Franklin, IN this year that is for sure.

If I am correct, your career went into full swing after joining Darkrider Studios, in which you are 1/3 of the mastermind behind the machine that has churned out several short horror films. Can you tell us how this company came into reality?

Darkrider Studios came about one night when a bunch of us friends were sitting around talking about making a horror movie, and we finally came to the realization that we could do it.  So in essence Darkrider Studios and Lethal Obsession were born the same night.  Darkrider has become so much more than that now.  We are an indie film company who is also a full service media production company as well.  You can find out more about us at www.darkriderstudios.com

Speaking of Darkrider Studios, you are currently filming a new horror movie titled Mother’s Blood. I became interested in this film not too long ago actually while getting ready to interview your costar, Jessica Cameron. Being that you are so involved with this upcoming horror film, can you maybe give us more info than we already know?

Mother’s Blood is about 95% done filming it has been an amazing journey.  I have posted tons of behind the scenes pictures at www.facebook.com/mothersblood and you can see the featurette at www.mothersblood.com. I play the main character Vivian Kennedy who will go to great lengths to make her daughter beautiful.  It is being describes as a very dark fairy tale complete with evil mother and repressed daughter.  We are hoping to start submitting to festivals and horror conventions this fall.

A short film of yours seemed particularly interesting to me – What They Say. The part that struck me most was a sentence in the synopsis that said “until the last drop falls.” Seems to me like there may be some supernatural elements here?

I was lucky enough to be cast in What They Say and work with some amazingly talented people.  I can’t say too much about the film at this point other than I hear the footage is amazing, and keep on the lookout for more info soon.

Due to your recent success, it appears that you are stepping outside of your own company and working with other filmmakers. Rumor has it you are locked to appear in another upcoming horror film, Idiot Gore. I posted the press release for this film on HorrorSociety and just recently viewed the teaser trailer. It looks to me like the killer in this film will be female?

Again, It’s not my place to give out too information on my unreleased films.  But I can say I am really looking forward to being a part of this film.  We will be filming this fall, and I am very excited about my character in this one.  She’s kind of Kathy Lee Gifford meets Ellen meets Oprah, it should be a blast working with Joshua Hull.

I read that you’re also a model. How does being a model compare to being an actress?

I totally prefer acting.  But modeling has a lot of similarities with acting.  A photograph is supposed to tell a story and you have to do it without words.  So they are pretty much the same thing, just acting is on a much bigger scale.

How does being an actress compare to writing, directing, producing, etc?

I love acting, it is a dream I’ve had since I was a child.  I am so happy to be doing it.  I also really enjoy producing; being the back bone to a production is priceless.  I do enjoy building a film from the ground up.  Making sure all the i’s are dotted and t’s are crossed. Directing is fun, but not my most favorite thing in the world.  I would rather act than direct.

What can readers look forward to with your career for the rest of 2011? Any secrets you wish to share?

No secrets.  What you see is what you get with me.  Especially if you follow me on twitter and facebook.  www.twitter.com/kitsieduncan  and www.facebook.com/kitsiefans. You’ll know everything just by being a part of those 2 sites LOL

Last random question: Indie horror free for all. Pair any two iconic holiday characters in a Freddy vs Jason type scenario.

I would say Cousin Eddie (Christmas Vacation) vs. Buddy the Elf (Elf)  having it out in the gum drop Forrest trailer park!  HA, that would be epic!!!

All right, folks. There you have it! Make sure you follow Kitsie Duncan on twitter and facebook. I’m sure this is just the beginning of a very eventful and long lasting career because, come on, she is nominated for Best Rising B-Movie Actress at The Golden Cob Awards. I will keep an eye out for all of her future projects including Mother’s Blood  and Idiot Gore. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us in these films. Good luck in all your future endeavors, Kitsie, and thank you for you time.
