Zombie Bohemia… Coming Soon

The zombies are coming! The zombies are coming…again! I recently got in touch with Vince Brando, one of the men behind Two Man Island Productions, about his upcoming horror mockumentary, Zombie Bohemia. This film is steadily nearing completion and a lot has happened since I visited the Zombie Bohemia set inside Brooklyn’s Greenpoint Gallery last January. Now, I’m still in the dark about most of the film, but I can refresh readers about what I do know.

Instead of creatively summarizing the film as far as I know, I’d much rather be lazy and quote myself from my behind-the-scenes visit. If you missed it, check it out here. “Zombie Bohemia is a short film about two rivals in the art world. Michael (played by Shawn James) is a zombie artist, literally. He is a zombie who makes zombie art, whether it is paintings, sculptures, or wood carvings. Michael is trying to make it in the New York art world, while his arch nemesis One (played by Tim Urian) has somehow captured fame and success with crappy art that is far less creative and wonderful than Michael’s. Throw in some unpleasant comments from One and a zombie who can’t be tamed, and yeah, bad stuff happens. Can you imagine the bad press Anton (played by Will Carey) is going to have to deal with after trouble goes down?

As I stated above, I recently got in contact with Vince Brando and I found a couple new behind-the-scenes pictures, a teaser poster [featured above], and a funny little anecdote to share. Here’s what Vince had to say,

“Great to hear from you. I just got back to DC after spending the weekend working on Zombie Bohemia up with the guys in Boston. It’s looking really good after a little more polishing and we are finally working out our scoring. We are looking forward to setting up a future screening in NYC once everything is in place and hope that you will be available to join us.

This weekend our DP Chris Magdalenski surprised me by setting up a pick up shot and drove me straight from Boston Logan Airport to his friend’s house in the suburbs. Chris felt that he had to surprise me because it involved throwing animal entrails at a canvas in 90 degree heat with fly’s, lots and lots of fly’s. The good news, that was the last pick up that we needed and it looks awesome. The bad news is that a few members of Two Man Island Productions (including myself) still reek of raw liver and can’t seem to wash the stench away. So unclean but all for the love of film.”

See, folks, film isn’t always as glitzy and glamorous as they portray it in the media. Sometimes you get a double wide trailer just for your dog, sometimes you get raw meat pelted at you. I’m really excited about this film, not only because I’m in a scene, but because Zombie Bohemia seems like an acid trip. And I mean that in a good way! While it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, the film is very interesting. It’s definitely a new take on the zombie genre, yet artistic  at the same time. I mean, look at the poster above. It looks like zombies meets Andy Warhol meets the Spice Girls. Seriously, though, I think indie horror fans will get a kick out of Zombie Bohemia because it’s horror, comedy, art, and passion all wrapped into one short film.

I’ll keep everyone at HorrorSociety up-to-date with Zombie Bohemia as updates start rolling in. In the mean time, check out some behind-the-scenes stills below.
