Mother’s Blood star, Rodney Horn Interview

This stop on the Mother’s Blood Promotional Train leaves me at the steps, or well…email inbox, of Rodney Horn. Rodney plays “The Gypsy,’ one of the most pivotal roles in Mother’s Blood. A self-proclaimed master of disguise, in this interview, he lets me into his world and shares with me some of the highlights in his acting career so far. Rodney has a couple other films in development besides Mother’s Blood; especially since he is one of Brian Dorton’s stable of reusable actors, not that this is a bad thing. Described as “the next Divine,” by Kitsie Duncan herself…read my interview with Rodney Horn below.

Your first film on record that I can is called Kill Cecile. It’s a short film, but it’s described with several different genre defining terms. How would you best describe this film?

I would say that Kill Cecile is more of a comedy with a dark undertone, but it’s great. I enjoy working and being a part of Brian Dorton’s team.

Mother’s Blood is your first feature film, one in which you play one of the main characters. You’re actually kind of a villain in this film. Which kind of roles do you prefer – predator or prey?

You’re not really sure who or what I am in this film. Demon? Angel? or a mixture. It’s really up to the viewer. I like playing the villain because it comes so natural to me.

Can you tell us anything about your time on the set of Mother’s Blood?

[It was] pretty laid back. Everyone I met was super nice. Kitsie is so easy to talk to. Going in I was like, “Oh god, these people are going to look at me and think dear lord where did this hillbilly come from?” Chris Jay was super cool. I love picking on him because he throws it right back.

Will only gore fans enjoy Mother’s Blood or is there something in it for everybody?

I think there is something in it for everyone. You got your gore, the hottness AKA: me, just kidding. It’s really an amazing journey that just has to be seen to believe.

Currently, you’re filming another movie called Tales of Poe. No information has been released at this time except the cast. So, out of the available cast list – who have you had the most fun working with?

I absolutely loved filming Tales of Poe with the AMAZING Alan Rowe Kelly! He’s a super nice guy, by the way, and Randy Jones is a super sweet guy too.

How about two Brian Dorton films called Trashology and Crazy Fat Ethel. Are you actually in those films? If so, in what capacity?

I am attached to Crazy Fat Ethel. I’m not sure what ill be doing, but I’m really looking forward to doing it. Trashology is dedicated to the amazing John Waters, who we all idolize. I hope he sees it and gets blown away with how flipping crazy it is. I love working with Brian Dorton. He is a director’s director. He knows what he wants and he does it and he is always open for suggestions.

I know it sounds cheesy, but what made you decide acting was a passion you wanted to pursue?

I always knew I wanted to act because when I was little I would pretend to be in a cereal commercial. So, how is that for cheesy!? But really, it fell into my lap like bam bam bam… I was shocked, but you know, that’s where hard work and determination will get you.

Why do you act so frequently in horror films as opposed to comedies or romance films? Is there a draw to the horror genre you like more than the others?

Horror is hot right now and horror fans are loyal, but I can do comedy very easily because I find myself very, very amusing.

Besides acting, we spoke a little bit about another gig you do. You will be impersonating a very famous figure in the horror genre this Halloween. Care to tell us about that?

Well, I’ll be doing Elvira [Mistress of The Dark] at Scarefest in Lexington, Kentucky in September. Then I will be at Horrorhound in Cincinnati. I’ll be dressed up, but I like to keep that a surprise. For Halloween, I’m not sure just yet, but check me out on my facebook at Geri72684@yahoo.com, which is also my email.

Rodney, or sometimes Geri, is quite the colorful character. I could tell by reading the answers in this interview as well as chatting with him off the record, he really is a good soul. I wish him all the best as he continues his career in the acting industry and I can’t wait to see him in the upcoming horror film, Mother’s Blood.
