How Did Fright Night Do This Weekend?

Well, it won’t be a Box Office bomb, but it won’t make a lot of money either.

Fright Night is the remake of the film of the same name that was released in 1985. Fright Night was written by Marti Noxon and stars Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Christopher Plasse, David Tennant, and Toni Collette. In Fright Night, “Teenager Charley Brewster guesses that his new neighbor Jerry Dandrige is a vampire responsible for a string of recent deaths. When no one he knows believes him, he enlists Peter Vincent, a self proclaimed vampire killer and Las Vegas magician, to help him take down Jerry.”

So, how did Fright Night do opening weekend?

Let’s start by comparing it to the original’s opening weekend sales. The original Fright Night grossed $6,120,000 opening weekend. According to Box Office Mojo, the remake has made $6,025,000 from Thursday night showings to Sunday afternoon showings; and there’s still more room for it to make some money tonight. So, it’s right up to par with the original film. Fright Night is estimated to come in within 5th to 7th place at the Box Office this weekend.

And some food for thought, here’s what other horror films did opening weekend in 2011.

Dylan Dog: Dead of Night – $754,000 #18

Final Destination 5 – $18,031,000 #3

Red Riding Hood – $14,005,000 #3

  1. Really hope this finds an audience eventually, like the original did–thought it was a great update, hit all the right notes, and more selfishly I'd LOVE to see a David Tennant/Peter Vincent centric sequel!!

  2. I just ignored the fact that I'd even seen the original & I enjoyed the movie. The food for thought part is pretty bogus though. Some of those opened in such select theaters that it was nearly impossible for most people interested in them to see them. -Dylan Dog for example.
