Don’t Be Afraid of The Dark opens at #3 over the weekend

How did the R rated remake by Troy Nixey and Guillermo del Toro do this weekend? Well, it did a little better than Fright Night’s performance last weekend, but not by much.

Don’t Be Afraid of The Dark came in at #3 this weekend and grossed $8,689,000. That’s actually not too shabby seeing how that’s almost 1/3 of the film’s budget. In comparison, Fright Night came in last weekend at #6 with $7,714,000, about 1/4 this remake’s budget. What does this mean for Shark Night 3D when it debuts in theaters next week? Either way, it’s nice to see horror films at the Box Office once again.

On twitter I made the comment, “Don’t be afraid of the dark? I’m already afraid of anything with Katie Holmes’ acting.” But in all seriousness – how scary can a remake starring Katie Holmes and a child be? It did get an R rating. Any HorrorSociety readers see it? If so, feel free to leave me comments and enlighten me.
