Grand Rapids Classic Toy And Toy Collectibles Show Changes Name

After seventeen years and over thirty successful events, the Grand Rapids Classic Toy And Toy Collectibles announces that the show has changed its name to the Grand Rapids Toy And Comic Expo to better reflect the evolution of the event to include more of a popular arts and comic book convention element.

“We are now celebrating 18 years of classic and collectible toys of all types,” said show organizer Russ Brown. “I am working with Mark Hodges on developing the show further capturing the “comic-con” type attendees.”

The event will now include a selection of vendors that one would expect at a more traditional comic book convention, such as companies that specialize in comic books, anime and manga, and movie memorabilia in addition to the traditional classic and antique toy dealers. The new Grand Rapids Toy And Comic Expo will also include an “Artists Alley” which will feature a selection of up and coming comic book artists selling original prints and trading cards of their own work. A Hollywood guest will be added to each show as well as a showing of a Michigan-based independent film and a costume contest.

The Grand Rapids Toy And Comic Expo will be keeping its traditional roots however, as one will expect to also find more interactive aspects to the show such as a Hot Wheels racing track, carnival games complete with a Victorian-Age style huckster, and seminars on more traditional collecting.

“The trick with this set of changes to the Grand Rapids Toy And Comic Expo is to make the event appeal to the more modern popular arts fan while at the same time respecting the history of the event and not alienating its core audience,” said new Public Relations Manager Mark Hodges. “I have attended quite a few of the toy shows in the past and greatly enjoy the event, and I am humbled that I am able to assist in the retooling of the event to bring it to a wider audience.”

The Grand Rapids Toy And Comic Expo also has a new website that includes details to all aspects of the event including guests, contests, and attendance details. That new site is www.grtoycomicexpo.com. Links to Facebook and Twitter pages are on the front page of that site.
