World Premiere of Sisters of No Mercy

Facets Fright School Opens with the World Premiere of Sisters of No Mercy from The Underground Multiplex

Facets is proud to open its annual Fright School, a month of spooky film selections at the greatest film venue in Chicago, with a special opening event: the world premiere of the feature-length version of Sisters of No Mercy (SONM), the internationally-renowned nunsploitation parody by The Underground Multiplex. This is a one-time, one-of-a-kind interactive cinematic event featuring live theatre, dance, music, nuns, evil priests, zombies of ill repute and an audience in for the ride of its life.

The SONM shorts (Sisters of No Mercy, The Wisconsin ExorSisters and Sisters of No Mercy 3D) were created over the past year by members of The Underground Multiplex, filmed in part during Facets Night School’s summer session and distributed online. All three shorts will be shown in their entirety as part of the new cohesive narrative.

The live event and film show the backstory of SONM and follows Satan as he holds an audition contest. His goal: to find a Commander of Hell to lead an army of zombies back to Earth to finalize his takeover. Who will be chosen? Come to the party in Purgatory and find out!

Before the screening/performance, Lew Ojeda and Joseph R. Lewis of The Underground Multiplex will give a brief lecture entitled “The Art of Video Mixing” and discuss the variety of video source materials used to create the final SONM feature film and how films from underground cinema eventually make the mainstream via sampling.

Some of the clips used to create SONM are selections from “Perversion for Profit,” “Alucarda,” “Satanico Pandemonium,” “The Devils,” “Love Letters from a Portuguese Nun,” “Mommie Dearest,” “Carrie,” “Female Trouble,” “Doorway to Heaven,” “Deadline for Action,” drive-in reels and a video of a large guy in a yellow sweater.
There will be a premiere pre-show party at 11pm in the lobby of Facets before the show with prize giveaways after the feature. Whether you’re interested in the modern art of video mixing, exploitation films, or having a surreal cinematic experience, the SONM premiere party is the must-see event of the fall.
