THE ELGIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE ARTS CENTER PRESENTS “CINEMATIC TITANIC” FEATURING THE ORIGINAL CAST AND CREATORS OF THE PEABODY AWARD-WINNING MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 SATURDAY, OCT. 15
Acclaimed Riffers Take On “Frankenstein’s Castle of Freaks” and “Blood of Vampires”
ELGIN, Ill. – To help folks begin to get into the spirit of Halloween, the Elgin Community College Arts Center, presents “Cinematic Titanic” in the Blizzard Theatre, located on the ECC Main Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 and 10 p.m. Tom Shales of the Washington Post hails “Cinematic Titanic” “consistently and unfailingly funny” and the St. Louis Dispatch dubs them “the Led Zepplin of movie riffers.”
“Cinematic Titanic” is a feature-length LIVE movie riffing show created by Joel Hodgson and members of the same team that first brought “Mystery Science Theater 3000,” the Peabody award-winning cult-classic series to life: Trace Beaulieu (Crow, Dr. Forrester), J. Elvis Weinstein (Tom Servo, Dr. Erhardt), Frank Conniff (TV’s Frank) and Mary Jo Pehl (Pearl Forrester).
Two different movies will be riffed:
• “Frankenstein’s Castle of Freaks”at 7:30 p.m. Frankenstein’s castle is chock-full of angry villagers, grave robbers and (obviously) skinny dippers.
• “Blood of the Vampires”at 10 p.m. This flick has something for everyone: blood-soaked action for the guys, tender romance for the ladies and unleashed demonic rage for the frightened child within us all.
(These titles have not been rated by the MPAA. Content is comparable to PG-13.)
Popcorn is included and the audience is more than welcome to attend the festivities in costume!
Tickets to “Cinematic Titanic” are $43 for a single show and $66 for the double feature. A three-course, pre-show dinner prepared by ECC’s award-winning Culinary Arts and Hospitality Program can be purchased for an additional $35. The dinner menu for October 15 features Tomato Bisque, Smoked Pork Chop with Apple Cranberry Chutney accompanied Sweet Potato Hash and a fresh vegetable, and a Chocolate Peanut Butter Mousse Bombe for dessert. Dinners include wine and are served at 5:30 p.m. in the Spartan Terrace Restaurant, located in the lobby of the ECC Arts Center. Dinners must be ordered in advance on or before Monday, Oct. 10.
