Scares That Care

By now, readers hopefully have realized that I enjoy fundraising and charity almost as much as I do horror films. So, it’s equally as fun for me to report on a something when the two topics crossover. It has come to my attention that there is an organization called Scares That Care. It is led by horror director Joe Ripple, who directed films such as Harvesters, Crawler, Vampire Sisters, and Jebediah. Instead of explaining more myself, I’ll just show you a summary about Scares That Care from its official website.

““Scares That Care!” is a not-for-profit organization that provides money, toys and other items to help sick children.

Led by horror film director and retired police officer Joe Ripple, this charity will utilize the fan base of the horror, haunt and Halloween genres to raise funds and awareness for sick children in need. We plan to have a GREAT time holding benefits, by showing films, having silent auctions and maybe getting lucky enough to have a few celebrity appearances along the way. Our success depends upon YOU.

To date, we have raised a minimum of $10,000.00 for both the Johns Hopkins Children’s Cancer Center, and The Kennedy-Krieger Institute! Thank You All who donated!

Now, The FIGHT Continues! For 2011 we are raising money for the kids at the “Make-A-Wish” Foundation!

Won’t you please help us make a sick child’s dream come true? Come on, Horror Fans! Unite for a common cause!

If you know of a family with a sick child in need, or an organization that could use our support, please feel free to let us know about them via the “Contact Us” page. If we are able, we will try to help!”

Awesome. It’s always great to give back to a special cause, especially when it deals with children. I already have a “Save The Tata’s!” bracelet, but there’s no reason I can’t add a “Scares For Pairs” bracelet to the collection; and it’s only $5! There’s also another red and blue $5 bracelet, sponsored by horror icon Kane Hodder himself! Scares That Care also have t-shirts, toys, jewelry, and other items. Go check out their online store and buy yourself some cool stuff by clicking here; all in the name of charity AND horror.
