Donner Pass Premiere Slated For 10/16 in L.A.

Our friends over at Donner Pass sent us a press release focusing on the world premiere of Donner Pass. Donner Pass is one of my most anticipated films that deal with horrific events; and after speaking with members of the production team a few months ago, I’m even more intrigued…and you will be too! The film, which is directed by Emmy Award winning Elise Robertson, focuses on the real life events of the Donner Party in the 1840s and how a group of teens may fall victim to the curse and much more in the present. How is this possible or related, you may ask? Well, go see the premiere and find out! Donner Pass will premiere as part of the La Femme Festival in Los Angeles. Donner Pass has even secured distribution rights and will be released to DVD early 2011. Here, let me just show you the press release, as it is much more articulate than I am.

DONNER PASS TO PREMIERE AT LA FEMME FILM FESTIVAL 10/16/2011

North American distribution deal inked with Freestyle Digital Media

September 28, 2011

LOS ANGELES, CA – Donner Pass, the recently completed dark thriller from director Elise Robertson, will have its premiere as part of the La Femme Film Festival in Los Angeles at 2 pm on Sunday, October 16, 2011.  The feature screens at the Renberg Theater at 125 N. McCadden Place, Hollywood CA, 90038.

Tickets can be purchased in advance through the festival website, www.lafemme.org. Journalists can contact the festival for a press pass: llapage@lafemme.org.

The La Femme Film Festival is premier festival that focuses on women filmmakers’ achievements, and helping them to platform their commercial films for the worldwide audience.

Donner Pass follows a group of teenagers who get snowed in near Lake Tahoe, the same spot where the Donner Party became snowbound and was forced to resort to cannibalism 150 years ago.

A legend persists that the Donner Party fell victim to an evil curse, a hunger that remains in those mountains to this day – and that George Donner himself is still out in those woods, still hunting.  For the seven teens, it’s just a scary story to tell around the fire.  But when one of the group turns up not only dead, but half-eaten, they must face the possibility that the legend may be true.

Shot on Super-16mm film in Big Bear, CA and Los Angeles, the film features an original score by composer Stefan Girardet and sound design by Derek Leininger, and will screen in Dolby 5.1 surround-sound at the Renberg.

North American Distribution Secured

Donner Pass has been picked up for North American distribution by Freestyle Digital Media, and will be available on all major home entertainment channels beginning in January, 2012. The exact date of release is still pending.

The movie is now up on the Netflix movie rental service. Interested subscribers who still receive DVDs in the mail can add Donner Pass to their queue today.
