Mary Horror Premieres 11/04 In New Jersey – exclusive still, mini interview, and all the details inside!

I’ve been following Mary Horror for some time now, especially due to the fact that it was filmed fifteen minutes from my house. Although things started to wind down update-wise after filming wrapped, I’m pleased to announce that Mary Horror will be premiering November 4, 2011 in Bernardsville, New Jersey. The event will be held in Bernards High School PAC and will start at 7:00PM. Before the screening of Mary Horror, you can walk a red carpet outside and take pictures in front of the Mary Horror poster. After the screening of the film, you can sit back and enjoy a Q&A with the cast and crew.

“Mary Horowitz is a normal high school senior who has just moved from Salem, Massachusetts to a small corrupt town in New Jersey. Mary’s life has not been going the way she planned. Her grandmother has passed away, her best friend Kelly has been missing for almost two weeks, and she suspects her boyfriend of cheating on the eve of her homecoming dance. A distraught Mary comes home to witness her family being brutally murdered. Being the only one to survive, she is put in a psychiatric prison to be “protected”. As two years pass by, Mary realizes what really happened that night wasn’t what she thought. As the plot unravels, so does Mary. Her time in the ward has changed her into something evil, a member of the walking dead. She realizes the truth and takes revenge on the town and on everyone that wronged her. Follow the life of Mary Horowitz, as she becomes Mary Horror!”

Mary Horror is directed by Ryan Scott Webber, who you may remember as part of the band Crash Romeo. Mary Horror will include several cameos by well-known actors including Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman, Deanna Russo (Rest Stop and Ghost Voyage), Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters franchise and The Crow), and Jason Marsden (Boy Meets World and Step By Step). Featured cast members will also include Youtube sensation Shawn C Phillips (Banshee!!! and The Lashman), Patricia Quinn (“Magenta” in The Rocky Horror Picture Show), former Good Morning America Host Therese Crowley, and newcomer Susie Duecker.

Here’s a quick three question conversation with director Ryan Scott Webber.

Q: What makes Marry Horror stand out from other horror films?

R: Mary Horror tells the story from the killers point of view. Most films tell the story from a group of friends POV or a group of kids. This story is different because you follow the path of Mary and her destruction from Mary Horowitz to Mary Horror.  You see it through her eyes. It makes you cheer for the killer. It’s almost like she is a super hero with a cleaver. Mary Horror brings a lot of old horror film elements to the table and also some new ones. It’s a nice mixture of old and new horror. Also, the actors are almost all from New Jersey and are all fantastic. The other thing is that the film was made for under $5,000 but looks like it was made for$50,000. I wanted to give the audience a rollercoaster ride. It was very important to me that is was a film for fans of horror.

Q: Where did you get the idea to bring Shawn C Phillips and MJ Kelly on board?

R: I’ve been going to the Chiller Theatre Convention in New Jersey for almost 12 years now and about 5 yeas ago I thought to myself man the fans of horror are die-hard people. They are completely devoted to the genre. I then thought what would be better than to make a horror film with such devoted fans and people out there. I saw there were people dying for any kind of horror out there. Then I started to watch Shawn C. Phillips and MJ Kelley on You Tube and I said these guys would be perfect for my film I want to make; and then I realized they were doing tons of horror films and it just seemed right for me to do one. I was always a fan of horror since I was little. I remember seeing Leprechaun and House and loving those as a kid. So everything just lined up and I wrote parts for Shawn and MJ and had many
vivid dreams that became Mary Horror

I was very lucky to have so much support from my town to film anywhere I wanted and so much great support from the actors in the movie. We all believed in this project and that makes me think that we made something great.

Q: Where is Marry Horror going after the premiere? What are your plans?

R: The premiere is Friday, November 4th at 7:30pm at the Bernards PAC 25 Olcott Ave Bernardsville, NJ 07924.  www.maryhorror.com for all info or follow us on twitter @maryhorrormovie. We hope to show the film in lots of theaters in New Jersey as well as lots of film festivals and local horror conventions (Chiller Theatre, Monster
Mania) around the area. If you don’t get out there and tell people about your movie and believe in it nobody will know about it. It’s a must ! I even have an idea to possibly take the movie out on the road and show it at local theaters around the country. I used to play in a band and that was a great way to get people to know about your band in this case the film.
