Order Up! Lisa Hackney Taylor Dishes on ‘Porkchops’

*You’re going to see a lot of interviews this week with the cast of Eamon Hardiman’s Porkchops. This horror film, a sequel to last year’s Porkchop, follows a family’s move to West Virginia and how the crazed killer, Porkchop, will once again reemerge with the intent of expanding his hit list. My first interview features cast member Lisa Hackney Taylor. Lisa, a West Virginia native, plays a motherly figure…who actually seems motherly! But will her character, Caitlyn, actually come face to face with the horror that is Porkchop? Read my interview with Lisa to read all about her role and involvement with Porkchops and learn a few tidbits about her life too.

Q: Name one character in a horror film that best describes your personality and tell me why.

L: That is a tough one. I might say Jennifer Love-Hewlitt’s character “Julie” in I Know What You Did Last Summer. I am a compassionate person and I would feel really bad about leaving that guy laying there to die. But on the other hand, I am extremely loyal to my friends so I would have a hard time deciding what to do in that situation. I would be just as torn as she was.

Q: Have you always wanted to be an actress?

L: absolutely! When I was a kid I was such a ham. My parents would make my brother and me sing in front of company and I didn’t mind it at all. Then once I started in school, I loved being in band and chorus just because we would have performances to do. I just wanted to be on stage because I loved putting on a show for people. When I was on the stage I felt like I was the only one up there and that everyone was watching me. I know now that isn’t the case. I do remember being bummed once it was all over because I never wanted the show to end.

Q: How did you initially find out and get involved with Porkchops?

L: Facebook of all things. Social networking. I had been sent an event request on Facebook for auditions for a local film called Porkchops. I was curious but wasnt sure how it would turn out so I just said to myself to go for it. So I did. I went in and read part of the script from the film. I felt like it was a “Don’t call us we’ll call you case” but about a week or two later I had got an email that I got a part. And the rest as they say is history.

Q: Can you tell me about your character in Porkchops?

L: I play Caitlyn Robertson, wife of Alec and the mother of Simon (Sam Qualiana). We are struggling to make ends meet and end up forced to sell our home and move to a less expensive home in West Virginia. I am a little hesitant about the move to I know it’s what needs to be done to make sure my family is going to be ok. I am a little too motherly to Simon at times but it proves that I love my son.

Q: Do you have any funny, interesting, or genuinely scary stories from your time on set?

L: As far as scary not too much. Only time I was a little uneasy was being out in the woods alone at about 3am. That’s never a good place to be in a horror movie. We had a lot of funny moments. When you go with only a couple of hours of sleep a night things start to get weird after a few days. My favorite moment was the Douchebag Olympics when we shot gunned energy drinks. My first time I ever shot gunned anything. Too bad that I didn’t win. I know there is video of it somewhere. I am just not sure if it will ever be seen again.

Q: What do you think is the single most important quality of Porkchops that will reel horror fans in?

L: Well besides the great cinematography and really nice gory murders I will say the humor of the film. There is a lot of comical moments in the film. The talent that is in the film are amazing and really add to the comedy factor. There is a lot of memorable lines from the movie.

Q: Has working on a horror film increase or decreased your love of the genre?

L: It definitely increased my love for horror films. It’s amazing to see behind the scenes and what all goes into making them. It is really neat to see how the special effects are done and how they make them look so realistic. It takes a lot of hard work, talent and time just to film one small scene. It makes you very pleased to be around people who have such a passion for what they do. That passion becomes contagious and it feels like the project is a part of you, kinda like it’s your baby. It’s a great experience.

Q: Anything else you would like to share with readers?

L: I wish right now I had a huge list of projects that I was working on but for right now I am waiting to get this film out and promoted then I am gonna pursue more options. We will be showing this film at Monster Mash Expo in Indianapolis Indiana. The convention is December the 16, 17th and 18th so I hope we get a lot of Horror Society fans to come out, meet the cast and help support our project.

Q: Favorite horror film:

L: I like Friday the 13th part 2, only because as a kid I remember that was the first time being really scared from a movie. It was on a Friday the 13th that it was on and they showed part 1,2 and 3. When I seen that creepy head on that altar with all the candles, then that girl put on that nasty sweater, still gives me chills. I knew then as a kid it wasnt right to put that sweater on. Still to this day that scene still gives me the heebie jeebies.

*Remember, Porkchops will be screening at the Monster Mash Expo in Indianapolis on December 17th. But, for folks around Charleston, Virginia, you can see the premiere of this film October 28th at The Empty Glass. Click here for all the details. Porkchops will also have two separate DVD releases. So, keep your eye out for those too.

Thank you for your time, Lisa.
