RAGING DOGS CLAWING ITS WAY TOWARDS MOST AMBITIOUS PRODUCTION YET

When independent film producers Michael Angelo and Paul H. Fielder decide it’s time for a new challenge, they don’t go small. In 2007, the duo collaborated on their second project together, Love Lost in a Boat, a 38 min. short film loosely inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado.” Four years later, now with Fielder sharing producing credit and stepping into the role of assistant director, the two decided it was time to head into feature-length territory with Whispers from the Dark, Vol. 1, a horror anthology that pairs their previous outing with two new stories to be filmed back-to-back early next year.

“We shot our first short, PLAY ME!, for next to nothing,” Angelo said. “A few years later, we made Love Lost for a couple thousand dollars. For better or worse, it seems like each new piece I write is getting more and more expensive to produce. Instead of trying to shrink our ideas down to fit our budget, Paul and I decided it was finally time to grow our budget to fit our ideas.”

That’s why Raging Dogs has stepped into the crowd funding arena and launched a campaign on Kickstarter.com to raise funds for their latest effort. For those unfamiliar, Kickstarter is a web site where artists of different mediums create a profile page stating what their creative project is about, set the funding goal needed to successfully complete that project, and put a time limit on how long they have to raise the funds. People can then make pledges to support their project in exchange for different rewards. It’s all-or-nothing: either the artists meet or exceed their funding goal before the time runs out, or no money exchanges hands at all and it’s back to the drawing board. For Whispers, the indie auteurs have until November 14 to raise $100,000.

That price tag may seem a bit steep for a production company with just a few credits to its name, but Angelo, Fielder, and company are determined to make sure every penny counts. Says writer/director Michael Angelo of the film, “It’s something bigger than we’ve ever done before, it’s more ambitious, it requires more locations and effects and things, and we’re going to have to create a hurricane (on the heels of) the worst drought that Texas has ever had.”

Adds Fielder, “I’m very excited to be working on another Raging Dogs production. Having worked with Mike and having confidence in him and his writing, I personally do feel it’s time for (us) to grow. With great storytelling that is strong in character…I’m glad to be a part of not only the project we have planned but the future of Raging Dogs Productions.”

Rounding out the anthology alongside Love Lost in a Boat are new stories You Always Have a Choice which RagingDogs.com describes as “a stranded motorist/haunted house tale,” and Angler/Fish, cryptically described as a “sexy creature-feature (kind of).” If their funding campaign on Kickstarter is successful, filming is tentatively scheduled to begin in January with hopes of a tour of the festival circuit next fall.
