The Culling to Reveal True Haunted Terror in 2012!

Chris Coy The Culling

The Culling has recently completed production and this action thriller blends mystery and the supernatural to tragic effect. Produced by Safady Entertainment (Machine Gun Preacher) and Silver Lining Media group, The Culling introduces a young girl who beckons a group of college students to a supernatural trap. In her eerie home a mysterious man, her father, and her mother (Virginia Williams) await them with cruel intentions. As well, this thriller was helmed by actor and director Rustam Branaman (Project Solitude) in what is sure to be one of the best horror films of 2012!

The tension continues when this group of friends including Elizabeth Di Prinzio (The Devil Within), as Emily, Tyler (Jeremy Sumpter, Peter Pan), Sean (Brett Davern, MTV’s “Awkward”), Hank (Chris Coy, Hostel: Part III) and Amanda (Linsey Godfrey) find Lucy alone and lost in a parking lot. They all agree to drive her home and find her parents. But what they do not realize is that Lucy’s parents have something in store for this small group. Method actor Schaech knows how to terrify the characters with just a look, a grimace or a shout and when characters begin to disappear, the true terror begins! This is a fear inducing thriller with an excellent cast that will lure audiences in to something unforgettable.

Elizabeth Di Prinzio also gives a hint of director Rustam Branaman’s directing style: “the great thing that Rustam did with this film is staying clear of the slasher and gore part of a ‘horror’ genre film and he shifted towards a feeling of uncomfortability and fear.” Di Prinzio also provides film trivia buffs something to savour: ”the house we shot at was the same house that The Last Exorcism was filmed at.” This is a scary real life abode that strangely draws horror films to it like a moth to a flame.

The Culling comes from a long line of supernatural thrillers that use a haunted location to bring an eerie vibe to audiences. Films like Spider Baby (1968), The Amityville Horror (1979), and Poltergeist (1982) defined the modern era of the haunted house style of film with surreal aspects of filmmaking and mystery. Meanwhile, the Paranormal Activity series of films continue to redefine what is truly terrifying when you are trapped with a spirit in a small and confining space. The Culling will further shape this sub-genre by both building tension through what is not seen and removing characters not deemed worthy by a strange family. After all, the viewer’s imagination knows few limits and The Culling will test viewers’ limits and ability to withstand horror with a terrifying release scheduled for late 2012.
