DCIFF to host ‘Fright Night’ event including screenings, zombie walk, and after party!

*DCIFF will have other events and other screenings too. The film festival will start February 29th and end March 4th. While this article will obviously only focus on the horror related events, I encourage you to check out the screenings and events not inside our genre of film.

I was personally invited to the DC Independent Film Festival, but due to an unexpected bill, I can’t take the weekend off to go visit them. I’m completely bummed that I can’t make it, but it doesn’t mean that all of you in the DC area can’t go experience the terror, and fun, for me! The DCIFF is hosting a two night event they are calling ‘Fright Night.’ The event will take place Friday, March 2nd and Saturday, March 3rd. ‘Fright Night’ at DCIFF will include screenings of indie films The Big Bad, Zombie Bohemia (keep an eye out for me as an extra in the gallery scene!), Beneath, The Caretaker, and The Small Assassin. Other events will include a zombie walk and the vampire-themed after party in Virginia. All other information including special guests and locations can be found in the press release below. Enjoy!

“*DC Independent Film Festival includes two nights of frightfully good films and activities.*

(Washington, DC) – The Award Winning DC Independent Film Festival has been home to educational seminars, groundbreaking cinema from diverse cultures and the opportunity for those involved in the arts to influence policy at our nation’s capital for 13 years. This year, they are also home to a Zombie Walk and various other spooky activities as they host a double dose of horror themed films on Friday, March 2nd and Saturday, March 3rd.  In addition to screening the films, they have assembled a collection of experts from nationally known filmmakers to local directors and actors to introduce and discuss the films.

The horror portions of the film festival take place at 9:30 each night, at Festival Headquarters (US Navy Heritage Center at 701 Pennsylvania Ave, NW). The weekend will kickoff with a screening of “The Big Bad,” a full length film following a female heroine as she stumbles along a desperate search for revenge. It is accompanied by two excellent shorts, the refreshing and entertaining “Zombie Bohemia” by local director Vince Brando and “Beneath” by local director Christopher Fernandez.  “It’s going to be a great night, and I am excited to view the other great films and meet their directors in person,” said Brando.

Friday night’s activities are not limited to film-viewing, however.  The evening will begin with the festival’s first Zombie Walk, featuring Shawn James, star of both “The Big Bad” and “Zombie Bohemia,” include a Blood Red and Zombie White Wine Tasting sponsored by Vampire Vinyards, and end with an Undead Afterparty at Hilton Mark Center in Virginia, complete with themed drink specials.  There will also be surprise contests and prizes throughout the evening.

Saturday night attendees will get a special treat, as the evening is hosted by Jorge Saralegui, whose credits include executive producer for “Queen of the Damned” and two of the “Alien” movies, and screenwriter for the last four Clive Barker Films.  Films that night include feature-length film “The Caretaker” and “The Small Assassin,” with “The Caretaker” Director Ton Conyers on had to present—all the way from Australia.

The public is welcome and encouraged to participate in any or all of the Fright Night activities, and can find a complete listing at www.zombiebohemiadc.com, as well as all other DCIFF events.

DCIFF serves an audience of 5,500 and is a juried event that has won awards and honors from the Kennedy Center and State Department.  It annually represents artists and premier filmmaking from about 20 countries. Kiefer Sutherland, Harry Shearer, Angelina Jolie and numerous other celebrities have participated in past events.  In keeping with their history of premiering outstanding horror, the Sundance Cut of “The Blair Witch Project” made its premier at DCIFF.  To learn more about DCIFF, please visit https://dciff-indie.org/.”
