Zombie Bohemia wins “Best Short Film” at DCIFF!

Zombie Bohemia, the now award-winning film by director Vince Brando, has been publicized a lot here at Horror Society. Ever since my trip to the set last January, I’ve really wanted to get the project out to you because, based on my opinion of being on set for one of the days of shooting, I thought the film was interesting. It’s been called a lot of things here – artsy, comedic, horrific, mockumentary styled, gorey, etc; it is definitely…interesting. It seems that the masses agree with me because I’m happy to say Zombie Bohemia won the award for “Best Short Film” this past weekend at the DC International Film Festival. Congratulations to Vince Brando, Mark Bell, Two Man Island Productions, and everyone else involved with this project. Let’s hope for further screenings in the future, but for now you can read the press release below for all the details on last weekend’s events.

ZOMBIE BOHEMIA TAKES TOP SHORT HONORS AT DC INDEPENDENT FILM FEST

International film fest features two days dedicated to horror, “Zombie Bohemia” wins Best Short Film.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington DC-The Fourteenth Annual DC Independent Film Festival wrapped Sunday night at the US Navy Heritage Center, concluding five days of outstanding films and seminars in our nation’s capital.  Out of nearly 1,000 submissions, 47 films representing artists from 15 different countries were selected to be part of the program.  Covering a variety of genres, these films competed to win juried awards in several different categories Sunday night.

This year’s festival dedicated two nights to all things frightening, including two sessions dedicated to horror films.  Zombies took center stage this year, starting with the festival’s first zombie walk on Friday.  After the walk, short film “Zombie Bohemia” took the stage, followed by that night’s feature, “The Big Bad,” which also included a zombie.  When all was said and done, this proved to be a good choice on the part of DCIFF, as “Zombie Bohemia” took Best Short Film at the awards program.

“Zombie Bohemia,” from Two Man Island Productions, is the story of Michael, a struggling New York City artist, who just happens to be a zombie.  Played by Shawn James, Michael is trying to find balance between his drive to produce memorable, inspired art while also being plagued by the underlying needs and urges of a zombie.  In short, he is trying to gain approval and respect from the very people he is biologically wired to consume.

DCIFF was the first festival for “Zombie Bohemia,” and the clever comedy proved to be quite popular.  “It was refreshing, funny and entertaining—I’ve never seen anything quite like it,” said one festival attendee.  The cast and crew could not have been more pleased with their first showing.  “We knew that our film was something unique and different, and hoped it would appeal to audiences,”  said Director, Vince Brando.  “Receiving this award really validated our work, but hearing the audience’s reactions during the screening was also extremely rewarding.”

“Zombie Bohemia” is the second short film by Two Man Island Productions.  It was written by Vince Brando and Chris Magdalenski and produced by Mark Bell.  Featured actors include James, Will Carey, Tim Urian and Havilah Imfeld.

DCIFF serves an audience of 5,500 and is a juried event that has won awards and honors from the Kennedy Center and State Department.  In keeping with their history of premiering outstanding horror, the Sundance Cut of “The Blair Witch Project” made its premier at DCIFF.
