Short Film COUGARS to World Premiere at the Chicago Fear Fest. New Poster. Feature in Development.

Virginia based Ningen Manga Productions, the creators of the killer feminist movie Women’s Studies, are proud to announce the world premiere of their new short film, COUGARS on Friday, April 13th in Chicago, Illinois as part of the Chicago Fear Fest. www.chicagofearfest.com

COUGARS tells the tale of Sasha, a teenager at constant odds with her promiscuous mother. When young Stuart walks her home from school, Sasha is forced to confront her dark secret making her more like her mother than should cares to admit.

“With a title like COUGARS, it’s shouldn’t be too hard to figure out what the ‘dark secret’ is,” explains writer/director Lonnie Martin. “All you have to do is look at the sneak peek. (Link below.) The tone we’re going for is Cat People by way of An American Werewolf in London, scary but with a cheeky vibe as well.”

Ningen Manga Productions is just as excited to announce active development of a feature length version of COUGARS. Melissa Cruz, one of the founders of DC’s Landless Theatre Company (https://www.landlesstheatrecompany.org), is penning a screenplay based off the short film and a treatment by director Martin.

“I decided pretty quickly that the script needed a female point of view,” says Martin. “We’ve had a great relationship with Landless for a long time and after talking with Melissa about the project, it was obvious she was perfect fit. She really understood how to dance on that line between dark comedy and horror.”

While no production dates have been set, NMP is aggressively developing the project as a follow up to Women’s Studies. In the meantime, Martin is really excited to begin COUGARS festival run.

“It’s a fun, quirky short. I really think audiences and horror fans are going to come away smiling.”
