Actress Debbie Rochon has been named the Honorary Chairperson of the Buffalo Screams Horror Film Festival, which expands to six days in its third year, October 17th – 22nd at the Market Arcade Film and Arts Centre in downtown Buffalo . Rochon was the festival’s first guest in 2010, when she received the Dedication to Excellence in Independent Filmmaking award. In 2011, she won the festival’s award for Best Actress in a Horror Short for her work in Bart Mastronardi’s critically acclaimed interpretation of The Tell Tale Heart. Rochon has appeared in 200 independent films, and graces the cover of Fangoria #314, available on newsstands in two weeks.

“I am deeply honored and very excited to be involved with The Buffalo Screams Horror Film Festival again this year!” says Rochon. “This time I have been asked to be the Honorary Chairperson and I can’t think of a higher compliment than that. I am so grateful to be standing beside some of the most dedicated, talented and ambitious filmmakers I have ever met. I couldn’t be more thrilled!”

“Debbie really set the bar when she came here the first time,” says Gregory Lamberson, who programs the festival with fellow directors Emil Novak and Chris Scioli. “Of course we gave her a table, but we told her she wasn’t glued to it and invited her to watch as many films as she wanted. She made a point of seeing everything she could, and asked questions of the filmmakers during their Q&A sessions and really interacted with them. She’s a true champion of indie filmmaking, and she adds a lot to our event in this expanded role.”

This year Buffalo Screams has added two competition categories: the Best Faux Grindhouse Trailer Competition, with a $500 monetary prize from sponsor Stellar Productions, and the Best Western New York Genre Film competition, which will select the best regional film from the shorts and features produced in the area. The deadline for all festival submissions is September 1, 2012.
