Where Are They Now? : Daveigh Chase

…Thank god most people don’t have a VHS player anymore. Problem solved! Take that, Samara!

It’s hard to believe it’s already been 10 years since that little creepy girl crawled out of the television screen and scared millions of horror fans around the world. Despite winning an MTV Movie Award in 2003 for “Best Villian,” Daveigh Chase appeared briefly in the 2005 sequel The Ring 2, but only through the use of archive footage.

Contrary to popular belief, this wasn’t Daveigh’s big break in Hollywood. By the age of 8-years-old Daveigh had already created a name for herself by providing the voice over of “Lilo” in the Disney smash-hit, Lilo & Stitch. Even after her role as “Samara” in The Ring, Daveigh stuck with Disney and voiced “Lilo” in the Sitch spin-off movie in 2003 and in the animated television series which ran from 2003 to 2006.

So has Miss Chase ever stepped back into the horror genre in recent years? Well, sort of. Before her Ring days, Daveigh starred as Donnie’s little sister in the cult classic Donnie Darko (2001). A sequel, S. Darko, was released in 2009 and Daveigh’s character was the lead in this picture. I don’t know if I would consider the Darko series horror or just some really weird stuff. Besides that, she appeared in legend R. L. Stines: The Haunted House.

The actress, now 22-years-old, just finished a long run on HBO’s Mormon-drama “Big Love.” Will she ever return to the horror genre in a big way ever again? Who knows. Her career is just beginning and it is far too early to rule anything out.
