Today I nearly cried like a 10-year-old girl when I discovered some awesome film makers (tentatively titled my new best friends…) were making a Buffy-verse fan film titled, Lurk. I was only seven years old when Joss Whedon’s “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” premiered on the WB11 and now, at the age of 25, I am still in love with the iconic television show. I anxiously awaited the animated series, which was sadly not optioned, and I’ve followed the official comic book continuations – Buffy Season 8, Buffy Season 9, and Angel & Faith. I’ve met many cast members from the series…but, ok, this post isn’t about me…
Another spin-off within the realm of “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” is the comic book series Fray, a short lived, eight issue series following The Chosen One in the 23rd Century. Melaka Fray is the current Slayer, although she doesn’t possess all of the legendary characteristics. She is joined in her journey by her sister and police officer, Erin, and Urkonn, a big scary demon who actually fights on the good of humanity. In Season 8 of Buffy, the title character is accidently transported to Fray’s world and the pair engage in a brief fight; much like Buffy fighting The First Slayer in the season four finale. But, I’m getting off track…again.
Currently, Vincent Valentin, Amy Dallen, Brittany Sandler, Annie Liu, and Stefanie Woodburn (as Melaka Fray) are currently knee deep in pre-production of a Fray fan film titled Lurk; the term for vampires used in the 23rd Century. Already a photo shoot has been shot and a promo teaser has been released. However, this cast and crew still need your help in getting the short film adaption of Lurk into production. Your donations will go directly toward stunts, special effects, locations, and more.
A big point that I need to make for all “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” fans who want to see Lurk happen – if these film makers go over projection for the funding, the additional funds will go toward making Lurk a longer short film! (Damnit… Why can’t I live in California?)
