Is this the indie revolution we’ve been waiting for?

There’s no denying that the film industry needs a dramatic change, a revolution, if you will. I won’t complain about the state of Hollywood, we’ve all heard it too many times before, but these filmmakers have a plan to change everything. A group of young filmmakers based out of New Orleans, aim to shoot all their feature films in a week or less.

Apple Pie Entertainment is just getting started, but they’re already making waves with their guerrilla approach. “Making a film in a week just seemed like a no-brainer,” says Paul Dale of their approach, “we’ve got the equipment and the ability. I’ve had times where I’ve spent years on a project, only to wind up having it fail. With this, if it’s crap there’ll be another opportunity in a week.”

With studios pumping millions of dollars into tentpoles, these filmmakers view themselves as the revolutionaries in the battle for the future of indie film. “So many filmmakers want to be the next big Hollywood thing, we just want to entertain people.” Says Dylan Mcgovern.

According to Jordan Napolitano, “We spend most of our time in prep and post, but all of the shooting is done in seven days or less.” With a team of writers and directors, they are able to constantly work. “While one guy is shooting his film, another is writing or editing, but there’s always help.”

The team bases their business model off of Roger Corman’s New Horizon Pictures; and mostly specializing in genre films and documentaries to start. “We’re going to move into more dramatic works when we get our footing, but for now the genre films are our bread and butter,” Dale explains.

Apple Pie Entertainment has been busy, with five films currently in the pipeline. Silent But Deadly, an homage to slasher films, except with a killer mime; Louisiana on Tap, a craft beer documentary; The Things We Hide, a locked room murder mystery;  A Dying Art, a documentary about the state of the cigar industry; and Untitled Anthology Film, three horror shorts tied together by a gruesome host.
