Interview with Adrienne King

Interview with Adrienne King
Interviewed by Maggie Roberge

Adrienne King is an actress most famous for her role as Alice Hardy in the original 1980 movie “Friday the 13,th,” where she went head to head with Jason Voorhees’ mother. Adrienne has been involved in show business all her life, beginning with a commercial she was in at the age of only 6 months old. From then right up until now, Adrienne has been involved with the entertainment industry. Most recently, Adrienne has been on Dancing with the Rogue Valley Stars, samba dancing for charity, and the new sci-fi horror movie “Walking Distance.”

I first asked how Adrienne heard about the role for Friday the 13th….

At the time, Adrienne didn’t have a theater agent, but a commercial one. So, she first found out about the role in the magazine “Back Stage.”

Did she think it would be this big?

She had no idea how popular it would be. Since it was a small, low-budget, independent film, she didn’t think it would go too far. She even recalled that Betsy Palmer looked at the script and said it looked like “a piece of shit.” Still, she kept Polaroids that Sean Cunningham took while filming, just in case. Even through running out of money and other hardships, the crew never gave up, and eventually Friday the 13th was finished and gained the attention that it enjoys today.

What does she think of conventions?

Adrienne doesn’t go to too many conventions. She’s normally selective about which conventions she goes to as well. She doesn’t want to wear out her welcome. She’s still enjoyed the conventions she’s attended however, and loves talking to fans from different areas, including international ones. She will always be grateful to her fans for their love and support.

How did Adrienne start her line of Crystal Lake wines?

Both the cabernet and chardonnay are made by Valley View Wines, a family owned winery in Oregon. At one point, the owners of the winery (who are actually Friday the 13th fans) wondered if she wanted to do something special that had to do with the movie. At first it was only going to be a limited time deal, but they continued with it.

Valley View Winery is the oldest winery in Southern Oregon, established in 1850 in Jacksonville. One of their wines, their Tempranillo is made from grapes grown in Rioja, Spain. Valley View wines have even been served in the White House. Currently, the Crystal Lake wines are only available online, or by phone order.
