Down The Road… Down The Road… It may just be the touch of crazy in me, but am I the only one who thinks there is some sort of nursery rhyme that goes along with “down the road?” No one? Ok, yeah, I guess I’m just crazy. Luckily for Down The Road, though, I am a sucker for the ‘kids go in the woods, kids get killed’ type of horror films. Before you write this off as just another camping slasher flick, let me tell you – it can’t be that bad. The script was mentored by Victor Miller, the writer behind the original Friday The 13th. This film even boasts thank you credits to Hatchet’s Adam Green, up and coming scream king James Wan, and the late Jackass star Ryan Dunn.
So, let’s dive right into the plot of Down The Road, shall we? “A father, Hunter Isth, is rocked by a tragic accident in his life. He fleets town and is no longer seen. Partying teenagers fall victim to a town lunatic. Through out the years the stories become urban legends and more than likely, myths. In present day we meet Jenn, a tough and beautiful girl, who has just been released from an extensive stay at the hospital. When her parents bring her home she barely has time to rest as her friends come over and drag her out camping for the weekend. Seven friends venture out to the woods but as each friend starts disappearing one by one they each try to survive the wrath of a true mad man.” I like how the plot gives you all the horror elements, but leaves you with a bit of mystery too. Was Jenn in a medical hospital or a mental hospital?
This film features scream king Clint Howard. Clint has acted in many horror films including Bloodrayne III, Rob Zombie’s Halloween, House of The Dead, The Dentist II and Leprechaun II. He’s also starred in award-winning movies such as Apollo 13. Mr. Howard is joined by a strong cast of newcomers including: Shaun Paul Costello from the highly anticipated Cross Bearer, Matthew Nadu (spots on “Royal Pains” & “Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Chelsey Garner, Jen Dance, Nikki Bell, Chris Ready, and You’ll Know My Name costars David J Bonner and Brian Gallagher. Down The Road was written and directed by Jason Christopher.
Down The Road is currently in post-production but will be making its debut at The Ritz (now known as Rave Motion Pictures) on October 20th, 2011 at 7PM. So far, the film will be screened at three film festivals this fall: The HorrorQuest Film Festival on October 27th, 2011 in Atlanta Georgia; The Killer Fest in Somerville, MA on November 6, 2011; and The Pocono Film Festival in Pennsylvania.
