The Redsin Tower Review

THE REDSIN TOWER

All right, once in a while there comes along a certain movie that seems to embed itself into your brain and the thoughts and images

never get out. Well I just was one of those films and the images are certainly never going to get out of this guys head. Here comes Toe Tag productions newest film…The Redsin Tower.

If any of you are familiar with Toe Tag’s work in the past with their films August Underground and August Underground’s Mordum, then you know their style of filmmaking. No holds barred gore and almost illegal snuff style of movie making. Extreme torture, sadistic sexual acts (with both the living and the dead), and over the top gore. Yeah, I love it!! And apparently so do thousands upon thousands of people out there. From those two films they have made a secure foot hold on the horror community and probably will go down in the record books for those movies. From there Fred Vogel and the Toe Tag crew have done special effect work on Murder Set Pieces. This is another example of violent gore filled torture; only this time it had a plot and some decent acting to go with it.

So as time goes by and the Toe Tag group get more popular and have a bit more money, the decide to make a feature length so called “real movie” (not shot on a handy cam) and release it to the unwitting public….

The Redsin Tower.

This movie is nothing like the previous August films of years before. No, no, this one is better. This premiered at the Cinema Wasteland Convention to a packed house of freaks waiting for more than an hour to get in. To put it like Fred said at the premier of the movie… “If you are expecting shit smeared tits, then you came to the wrong place” But if you are expecting a well crafted masterpiece of a movie with all of the signature blood, gore, and violence of Toe Tag that you have come to know and love, along with good acting and well driven storyline, then you have come to the right place.

The Redsin Tower is simply a love story and a tale of revenge with some supernatural elements weaved seamlessly into it. It starts out as a lovesick and heart broken Mitch who has just been dumped by his long-time girlfriend and he can’t seem to handle it. Determined to get her back he stops at nothing to win her over, and I mean nothing! Meanwhile his girlfriend decides to try and get rid of the memory of Mitch by partying with a group of people at an abandoned building simply known as the Redsin Tower. Well here is where all of the fun begins. No I’m not going to tell you step by step what happens, but I will tell you this. There is a bit of knife wielding by the ex lover Mitch, some blood, maggots, crazy flying things, demons, ghosts, more blood, baby munching, gore, more blood, and some more blood.

This one really threw me for a loop and I never expected anything like this. I have seen the trailer once before and knew from watching that this is nothing like the other films. Well it really isn’t. Fred and his team have put together a well-made horror movie that really pushes the limits of safe viewing again. The acting in this movie, is really acting…not quit like August. The Cast is made up of stage actors, first time actors, and shit, even a carpenter! But put them all together under the direction of Vogel and they all seem to have been in front of the camera for years. Everyone does a wonderful job in this one and ever character is believable and they all seem like someone you went to school with. This acting on top of the graphic violence, blood, and gore is enough to drive you mad. But then introduce some wonderful lights, set design that really worked and looked authentic, and some camera work that puts you into the head of the character, and you have yourself one of those movies that you will never forget.

This even has a bit of the supernatural ghost/demon possession that is just as real as the exorcist, but more graphic and utterly crazy than anything ever seen before. The sound and lighting of some of these scenes really make this movie an experience and not just a viewing. Along with a packed house tat the convention that it premiered at, this is certainly going to put Toe Tag on the map. Fred and the crew will no doubt get the respect they deserve in the horror community not only with their hardcore fans, but others as well. Not at any point did this slip away, or really not make any sense at all through out the movie. Everything was well written and it flowed out to the viewer even better than the blood in it.

With movies that are a real let down now in terms of actual horror and brutality, (Hostel, Saw 1, 2, ..) this one really shows us what horror is and can be in the future. Toe Tag’s catch line for the August films was, the future of horror… well this to me certainly is. Not only does it really have some kind of substance to it for those that need a story, it has the gore and effects for those that need to see RED! If you ever get a chance to see this in some kind of theater, festival, or convention….go! Just go! There is nothing better than this one on the big screen. You really get a feel for what Toe Tag set out to accomplish. I’m sure the DVD will be even better and the extras will be something to look forward to as well.

Well done! This is exactly what a horror movie should and needs to be!
The Future of horror IS bright fucking red!!
